How do I clean the outside of my tank?

HI everybody. I have noticed that the outside of my tank has started to get a bit dirty. I wanted to know how to clean it correctly. I'm afraid that cleaning it with home cleaners could affect the fish. Is that correct? How do you guys clean the outsides of your tanks? How often should I clean the outside?

I have 2 fish tank towels and after a WC one is usually pretty wet so I use that to wipe it then either use the other one to dry it or just some paper towels. But if you take windex and spray some on a paper towel and wipe the glass you should be fine just don't go over the rim.

I use window cleaner and a paper towel. I have a hood so nothing gets in though.

I just use a damp washcloth and wipe off anything on the glass, then go back over it with a dry one if I need to

Definitely as soon as I finish my WC and sometimes even in between especially if I see water spots or anything. Just a damp cloth and a dry paper towel will make it look like new every time.

I usually clean mine every wc, that's just because a little bit of water always gets on the glass and I don't want it to dry and leave marks

I clean mine every 3-5 days b/c it is right next to the kitchen sink and counter where we put the dirty dishes.

I wipe it down when I see any water on it. But sometimes I sit on the floor and clean off white streaks you can only see from that direction! I just use a damp towel.

A little off topic, sorry. Do you ever wash those towels? If so, wash with normal washing or do something special?

I use vinegar and alcohol. I wet up a towel with it and scrub away.

I put them right through the laundry with my other towels

After a water change with ordinary window spray - but I do make sure the tank lids are shut.

I don't use the window cleaner cause all my tanks are topless and i'm constantly cleaning the fronts and sides of the tanks with those towels cause noone wants to see a single drip of water going down the entire front of a tank Right? ... But if I had to I would spray on a paper towel first anyways lid or not

I use a fancy polishing cloth that my mom has. I just occasionally steal it from the kitchen and wipe down my tanks. It doesn’t require any kind of sprays or anything.

Hi,
I use a microfiber cloth (a specific one kept just for my aquariums) They're great as they remove any water marks and polish up the glass beautifully without needing to use any cleaning spray.
(They're also great for cleaning your windows!!)

That is what I use. I just rinse it out once I'm done using it. I have never washed it in the laundry. I assume it is safe to wash with laundry?

Hi, yes, I put mine in the washing machine every so often (aka when I remember!) to freshen it up. The ones that I use in the kitchen/bathroom and for the windows get washed all the time. They are very tough.
Hope this helps!

I use windex once a week but I have to clean the glass 2-3 times a day with paper towels as my oscars like to empty a lot of water out of my tank whenever you feed them

I like using the foaming aerosol "Sprayway" brand glass cleaner. It's ammonia free so it's also safe for cleaning tinted automotive windows.

It's glass...clean it like glass...just don't spray glass cleaner in the tank like a moron.
