How Do Fix Cloudy Water From Sand?

I used Tahitian Moon Sand in my new 37 tank I still haven't fully set up yet(pic below). I washed it a lot to the point the water was clear, but I guess not clear enough. I certainly don't want to be putting any fish in that as it is T_T

just wait for it to settle or do several water changes until it clears up. you can mix the sand around before each water change to get rid of any cloudiness.

I should refrain from adding fish in this state correct?

I wait for all the sand to settle, and then plug my filters in filled with floss, which really helps the clarity.

You want to use polyfil, or aquarium filter fiber.
not quite sure what that is. All I know is that its that I Ihave a Quiet 50 ill be putting on there. might even double up with my fluval 50 that my 20gl is using

Just be sure not to run them before sand particles have settled, or else you may clog or break your filter.

Filter floss or polyfil, run the filter to help clear out the small particles. The problem is if you let it settle it's still in the tank, at least when it's run through the filter floss it gets eliminated. Cloudy water for a few days won't hurt most fish.

they probably don't like it but I'm going to keep them in the 20 until I get this fixed some how, and get over that overwhelming feeling of "oh no. its ruined" unfortunately I used all the fresh water I had and ended up with that. now I'm just thinking I should just fill the rest of the tank with tap water (my tap water has ammonia in it unfortunately) but doing water changes after water change with the tap water and once its clear. thinking of pumping out all the tap and filling again with clean water. is that a decent process?

That will get the cloudiness out.

You need to cycle this tank before you add fish, or put your filter from your 20 in it, your new filter and just the fish you currently have in the 20. No new fish for a few weeks until the new filter gets a colony of beneficial bacteria growing in it..

You can go to one of the chain pet stores and buy filter floss and put in behind your filter cartridge. It should clean that cloudiness up quick. Change the floss once it gets dirty but don’t change the cartridge.

oh yeah . I'm familiar with the nitrogen cycle. I won't be adding anything in there to die. luckly the tap water has ammonia in it so that might help with that part. I was thinking of when, and or if I get this nightmare taken care of. I would would use safestart, tap water and maybe a little flake food to get the cycle going, maybe the ammonia in tap water will help? I still need to learn how to used a cartridge filter. the one on my 20 uses like a sponge , an carbon bag and this fishnet thing of wood peices. but those are question for another thread. I'm just feeling overwhelmed at the moment with the milky water. I also have a load of seeds covering the sand and it looks horrible. but that is in another thread. for now ill work on the water =)

I wouldn't worry about it too much! You probably just need to let it sit.

You can buy filter floss (polyfill) at fabric stores much cheaper than at pet stores. It is used to fill pillows, quilts etc etc.
