How common is a large neocardina?

I have a female that is almost as large as a male amano. Pics aren't great, but hopefully you can see her compared to another cherry and to a male amano.

I've had some here and there be a little bigger than others, but she's the first one I've had that's this large.

Do your 'giants' tend to be female?

 

Very cool, someone said cold temps tend to produce larger females. Not sure if true, but I had some giant cherries in cold tanks that was around 16C

Interesting. This tank stays at 75°F ... that's about 24°C I think. It might fluctuate up or down by a degree now and then, but it's pretty steady.

 

My tanks are at 78-80. Seems the bigger the tank the bigger the shrimp. But that black one was almost twice the size of large females. This is one of its offspring.

 

I have always found the ones that revert back to wild type colouring tend to be larger. My tank with the brown ones has all larger ones than my tank with reds even though they are all from the same colony that began in 2018.

Also, I agree on tank size. My larger tanks seem to be producing larger shrimp. All tanks are at the same temp.

 

Hmm the shrimps in my 75g are not as big. The massive ones all came from 5g tanks filled with algae/cyano....

 

Not my phrase, but I have heard them referred to as 'grandma shrimp'. I've had blues in an unheated 29g for about 2 years now, and I have a couple of large ones. Almost black, always female, but no longer carrying any eggs.
