How Can You Help? - Page 2

BottomDweller, freshwater

-stocking (compatibility, minimum tank sizes and stocking levels)
-goldfish (breeding, varieties, feeding, stocking, tank mates, general care, tank setup, ponds)
-shrimp and snails (amanos, rcs, rabbit snails, nerites and pond snails particularly)

-rabbits and gerbils (for our other pets section)

I'd like to point out that the top 2 are really my speciality though I'm reasonably experienced in freshwater shrimp and snails. Please don't ask me about cichlids apart from the common community ones or fish disease!

I know this hasn’t been updated in a few, and this is a fish forum but we’ve got other sub forums I’ve got more experience with that I’m often tagged in now because I frequent those a lot.

BReefer97 - Other Pets
  1. Reptiles (crested geckos, blue tongue skinks, various snake species, turtles and tortoises - anything from husbandry to breeding)
  2. Amphibians (Frogs and toads - general care and ID)
  3. Insects (Praying Mantises, Dubia Roaches, and Tarantulas - general care and ID)

Hi!

Let's revive this page again haha

I know I'm new on here but here's a few things I'm a pro on (mostly other animals lol)

RobinIsACattto- Freshwater
1. General betta care (supplies, requirements, etc, just no IDing or diseases)
2. Basic nitrogen cycle stuff (nothing too in depth, more just supplies and how's my cycle going kinda stuff)
3. Basic/low tech plant reqs (not mineral reqs but, again, supplies, and no IDing; maybe deficiencies)

Other animals:
Hamsters- very much so a pro. I can deal with pretty much any issue ever.
Other rodents- I know generals, but not so much behavioral stuff or anything like that
Leopard geckos- basic reqs

Hopefully I'll update this more as I go as I'm still learning a lot but I'm very happy to help to the best of my ability!

Hello guys! This thread is for us members to know who are the ones specialised in a particular matter (e.g. medication, aquarium maintenance, IDing, breeding, etc.). It could be freshwater, brackish, or saltwater... Or all!

You should reply in this format:
[Name] - (Freshwater, Brackish, Saltwater)
1. [Specialisation1]
2. [Specialisation2]

For example:
John Apple - (Freshwater and Brackish)
1. Breeding Sparkling Gourami
2. IDing Cichlids
3. Suggesting stocking
4. Identifying fish disease

I am doing this so that when someone needs help, we can tag them for that particular matter...
Thanks guys!

You may get a better response if you create a thread about this.

Everyone whos been around for awhile knows who the general "go to's are

Example most tag coralbandit for rams advise
Mattgirl for cycling

Who are good tags for other things?

Plants?
Ferts?
Substrate?
etc.......................

It would kinda be nice to have a sorta arsenal on hand for specific questions when no one is answering.......

I know Vishaquatics is the go to for plants and ferts.... substrate I'm not so sure about

All have good all around fish and disease knowledge IMO.
chromedome52 will clear up any questions ..One of our smartest if not ...
There are lots of other good people many with special interest like myself ...Although at 35+ years fish keeping /breeding don't be fooled into thinking I only remember the last 7 years breeding rams !

Thanks CB.
My picks for Fish Lore's (Fish PHD's) are coralbandit & chromedome52
Those that hold Fish Lore (Fish Master degrees) in specific areas are: oldsalt777 - Water management purist
ChanyI - Advanced Aqua Gardner.

As for me, I'm just a "Jack of all trades". Thirty plus years in the hobby. I've learned a few things along the way.

DoubleDutch is a wizard with cories.
bizaliz3 is the go to person for angels.
richie.p is the shrimp master.
Dave125g is an all around expert (as are the others, but they have their areas of extreme expertise as well).

I'm sure they will say "oh, I'm not THAT smart" but don't believe them. They, along with all of the people that have been mentioned so far, are some of the smartest and most aquarium-forward people I've ever met.

Here is a short list of my go to:

coralbandit "Rams" without a doubt along with breeding many types of fish
chromedome52 "Fish ID / behavior / stocking"
Mcasella "Plants"
richie.p FishRFriendz "Shrimp"
DoubleDutch "Corys"
Jocelyn Adelman "Ferts and lights" not sure if she is still active

and many many others whom I have learned so much during my Journey keeping "Wet Pets" and "Under-watering Gardening"
Thanks coralbandit I am humbled by your inclusion but just a short timer compared to everyone mentioned.
Still Learning all the Time!

You saved my ailing cycle though mattgirl and THAT experience was a whole new branch of enlightenment for me! Who knew you could terminally stall the whole cycle with extreme nitrates??

Who does Snails? Cichlids? I have always had African Cichlids but I'm no expert. I just have perfect water for 'em.

For snails I'd say Skavatar is your man.

A201 is great with African Cichlids.

I've seen a lot of info from Islandvic and Cichlidude on filter threads.

NC122606 knows his stuff about african butterfly fish.

Another for angels would be angelcraze. With that "the Big Three" angel peeps have been mentioned. (The people I see most anyway)

I've seen Mcasella and bizaliz3 giving great info about bristlenose genes and such.

Fanatic and Repolie are great with bettas.

emeraldking has a lot of informational posts on livebearers

Mike is obviously the expert to call if you find a bug in the system. Likely because he caused it

I better not see a humble parade marching through here if any of you feel I've overestimated you, you've taught me lots.

Really there's so many great names on this forum. The only problem I have with these kinds of threads is that my itty bitty brain can't list them all off. Too many have gone unnoticed for my liking....

I don't really do GBR, but bolivians are where my passion (obsession) lies, just a shame there aren't more threads about them. My level of experience in the hobby pales next to most people on this thread though. Some have even been keeping fish for longer than I've been alive... seems I'm not the only one with an obsession

Thanks! Yourself and jmaldo are also some go to people when it comes to rams. Then as mentioned earlier coralbandit is a ram guru.

I had noticed a Coptapia shaped hole in Fishlore tbh. His name would've been all over here. Lots of knowledge lost there
