How can I slow the flow/water disturbance on my sponge filter? I have the tetra whisper air pump

I have a small 10g community tank, and am seeding a sponge filter that will go into a 5g betta tank. However, it has WAY too much flow for some reason and the bubbles/water disturbance is stressing out the fish in the 10g, so it definitely will be too much for a betta in a 5g.

How can i slow down the flow?

You can get a small valve to put between the sponge filter and pump - i goes filter -> tubing -> valve -> tubing -> airpump. With the valve you can adjust the flow. There are all sorts of valve ranging from $0.50 (or less) to $20.

Also, remember the check valve.

filter -> tubing -> valve -> tubing ->check valve-> tubing-> airpump.

The check value can serve dual role you don't need both and if you have a big enough loop at the top you don't need a check valve (the concept is if power go out you might get a reverse flow dumping the tank on the filter).

Also, remember the check valve.
