House plants with roots in aquarium?

I have some house plants that were meant for my ball python tank but they aren't doing well and I assume it was a soil issue (mix of topsoil and coco choir with some fish root tabs for reptile safe fertilizer). I don't know the specific types of plants (I'll attach pictures) but I think have a Birdsnest Fern (Japanese I think?), a Philodendron or Syngonium (not sure which, looks like Syngonium), a Peperomia, and a Dracaena. The Dracaena is doing okay still in the snake tank. The birdnest fern was shriveling and has the tips burned by my light so I tried repotting it but it wasn't getting better. I put it in some damp aquasoil and have it sitting above my filter right now. The phildendron/syngonium was losing leaves so I took it out and potted it, same with the Peperomia. I've had them for at least a month (made the mistake of tossing their ID labels).

Point is, I'm not much of a green thumb so I wondered if cleaning their roots and putting them in the top of my filters on my aquarium or having just their roots in the aquarium would save them while also helping my tank? I'm not a plant person (other than aquarium plants) so I'm not sure if submerging their roots in water would help or hurt these specific plants.

Try to identify the specific plants you have. Some house plants are great for aquariums as long as the leaves are kept above water. Others might be toxic. So unless they are identified properly, it is difficult to know which are safe and which might not be.

Many people use house plants as tank toppers to extract nitrates from the water.

They were a part of a reptile starter pack I ordered from thebiodude. They're all reptile safe at least and I have the generic type of plants listed. It's the specific type of that plant that I'm not sure. So, I know I have a Dracaena but I don't know if it's Dracaena fragans, Dracaena deremensis, Dracaena warneckii, etc. I don't plan on submerging them at all, just using them as a topper so long as that might help them grow (and fish are safe, of course).
