20 Gallon Tank Houdini Betta, Please Help Edit: I have now figured it out

Howdy! I currently have one young betta in a 20g long tank with 2 dividers. The dividers are LifeWithPets, here, and I have not modified them in any way. They are in place with 3-4 inches of substrate and the clips on the top that then dividers came with. The lid on the tank is plastic wrap that I taped down on the sides, this is temporary I'm planning on getting a glass lid soon. There is hardly a gap between the wrap and the tank dividers(about <1cm). Today I found my betta had somehow gotten from one divided section to the other. Luckily he's alone but as this is a divided tank I would really like to figure out how. It's worth it to note that he has been surfing up and down the wall by the divider and is now doing it as I type this so I am taking a time lapse. Please help

Edit: So I also posted a video to tiktok, turns out the sides of these dividers are ALSO extendable. I have sense then expanded them and all seems well. I have now named him Houdini.

Edit 2: Would it be a bad idea to keep him in a divided tank now??

Houdini is a great name. I wanted to name my zebrafish but was impossible to tell one from the other. I ended up naming the whole school "pijama people".

I have now named him Houdini.

Be careful with that name...I had a snail that I too named Houdini, who one day pulled off the ultimate escape trick. I never saw him again ):

All jokes aside, glad you figured out what was up. I guess he must've jumped and wriggled through the gap between the divider and wrap, as I don't see any other way he could've gotten through - that looks like a very sturdy divider. Worthy of the name!

Oh poor guy! ): I will keep that in mind, and yes they are fantastic dividers! I just wasn't using them right

You may also want to watch your water levels. Took me forever to figure out how they were going from one side to the other when I made sure the sides were closed off. Any time I wasn't paying attention and filled up more than I meant to they'd just swim through the gap between and lid and the top of the divider.
