Is it safe to use my hot glue gun to build decorations??

I have this idea to make a cave, based on something I saw somewhere....the frame is plastic canvas and it's decorated with sand and rocks

Here's the frame

Yes hot glue is aquarium safe. I use it all the time so is the mesh. Id rinse it well before adding it.

Once its in the tank be careful moving it around as it will become less binding. once its dried id wait a cpl hours until adding it.

Unfortunately, the rocks didn't want to stick to the side

I'll have to pile them instead

That would look great covered in plants.

Yea I agree as well maybe anubias or java fern or moss. Anubias roots will grow through that and look pretty cool.

Oh now you've got me wanting to do that! I had no idea hot glue was aquarium safe!

You could put that together with high quality fishing line and it would last basically forever.

I'll be wanting another, and I have more canvas circles.... and a java fern . I plan on getting more plants so I'll look for Anubis
Here's how it went in with the existing plants

100 percent silicone lasts way longer. 4 to 6 bucks a tube. Its stronger and lasts longer only downfall is smell and cure time. Anywhere from 24 to 72 hrs.

I'd probably smear silicone on the visible parts then sprinkle sand or something on it. Might help it stop looking like a plastic mesh with a bunch of rocks stuck to it.

This is my practice run, I think I'll be doing exactly that next time.....apparently sand doesn't stick to hot glue

But thank you for that oh so flattering description of my hard work...... really encourages one to branch out into craftiness:/

In my experience sand is not appealing imo. Atleast black sand. Maybe White sand. Small pebbles or gravel looks cool though.

This is an opinion and mine, don't let it deter you. All projects here are experiments and reaches different people differnt ways. Keep it up.

The betta likes it, and that's my most pressing concern

I wanted him to have a safe, no pointy-edges cave, whose door was big enough to enter...he's a bit dense when it comes to hidey-holes lol, and will rip up his fins to get into that place he's convinced he should fit into.....

I think it's really cute if it helps! It's like a tiny rock themed betta hotel
