Hornwort Free Float Or Plant In Substrate?

I have hornwort in my 40 gallon breeder tank, and I have other plants that require low to moderate light. I ordered a 36" Finnex 24/7 planted + that I will be installing tomorrow.

My question is: I currently have the hornwort bunch together and the tied to a weight I from a crabbing net I used. The plant is growing so far like 6 inches in a week, but will it continue growing like with it being weighted down?? Plant is not in substrate, but I fear letting it free float will block out beneficial light.
Please let me know thoughts. I can post a picture when I'm home tomorrow.

It will prob. continue growing. I would plant it in the substrate and trim it back when it grows too tall.

Hornwort doesn't produce roots. Every time I've planted it in substrate, it rots. I would continue using the weight if it works, but the plant grows best floating in slow moving water.

Okay great!! So far it's been growing fairly fast. I have a new light Finnex 24/7 planted + and am dosing easy green fertilizer 2x a week. Will update on growth in another week or so. Thanks to both!

I second Koiman and would add the while it will block light free floating, the anubias may thank you for it.

I do the same thing with Hornwart. One thing I like about weighting it, is it looks more like a plant growing from the substrate in an aquarium. Yes, it grows fast even before I added a Finnex 24/7. Note on the 24/7 I wouldn't use the demo mode again as I got an algae bloom within a week, doh!

Hornwort is going crazy especially after going to dry ferts. I now have 3 bunches after 2 trimmings and of them is already at surface a week after cutting!! All are weighted down as my plants need light, but will let this talk bunch crawl across water for a little bit.

I've found it also grows just as well floating in still water.

The leaves are closer together on the floating portion but it looks good all around. Leaving it weighted and having the tops just float. Hoping it keeps on going and starts eating nitrates like crazy!
