Hoplo Catfish no fins

Hello, I got the Hoplo a long time a go. Over time it started losing all its fins, and I don't know why. It could have been my Red Tailed Shark, but I don't know. I know he nipped at him at first, but not to that extent. The red tailed shark doesn't nip anymore. This is a 29 Gallon. When they get bigger I am moving them to my 55, then after that, when they get full grown I move them to my 100. The Hoplo just squirms everywhere. It's sad, but at the same time he eats and still goes up for air. What should I do? I have treated the tank for fin rot multiple times, but his fins definitely won't grow back.

Why do you have a red tailed shark in a 29g? Also why didn't you remove the shark when he first started nipping? He should have his fins grow back as long as the red tail shark doesn't nip at him

I didn't have other tanks at the time, I was new to the hobby. I was unaware of doing research before buying fish, I was ignorant. I feel horrible about it. The red tail is still relatively small, I don't want him to get attacked in the 55. But I can see how he does in the 55 , I can monitor the RTS. The Hoplo doesn't get nipped at anymore.

As long as you learn from your mistakes that's all that matters

The thing is, he stopped nipping after a few days. He still had his fins. I feel like something else was eating away his fins. Could he have gotten a parasite?

Well... Is he eating well? Are you sure he didn't have fin rot?

When it started, I dosed the aquarium with Melafix. The thing is, it just kept going. He is eating great, I feed a large variety of food. I have low nitrates, around 10 parts per million. I do regular water changes. Two times a week. No one picks on him either. I set up a camera at night because my aquarium light has a blue light setting, and no one messes with him. So that's where I am at a loss. Sarah73

Hmmmm.... Sometimes we have no idea what happened to our fish. I think you did nothing wrong. Let me do more research on it!
