I am at the tail end of cycling my 55 gallon saltwater tank and purchased a chromis and a turbo snail yesterday. I snail is loving life but the chromis seems to be in stress mode. I cannot get him to eat and he is staying in one corner and he appears to be breathing rapidly but he is slowly swimming around one tiny little rock. Could my new chromis be dying or does it take them time to get acquainted?

If it is being exposed to ammonia or nitrites it may not be displaying its typical behavior.

Also, Chromis are schooling fish and if you just have one it may not adapt and feel comfortable by itself. I have 6 green chromis that are constantly out and about, swimming into the currents at the top of the tank.
