Hood/Cover Ok To Get Wet?

Hello all

I installed a very small airstone yesterday in my ten gallon tank and love the bubbles and the look of it. I understand that it is also good for the aeration of the tank so that is great!

My only concern is this....The tank I bought came with a hood that has LED's that are mounted underneath. See picture below (note: this is AFTER I dried it off...when I woke up it was saturated):

Now the airstone is producing a good amount of bubbles (doesn't seem like too many) but when they rise to the top of the water and then "pop", the water kinda splashes up a bit (I'd compare it to the top of a freshly poured glass of soda, the bubbles kinda send tiny bits of liquid upwards).

Is it ok the get the LED's wet? I woke up this morning and the hood was pretty saturated with water. The lights were off all night so I wasn't immediately concerned but I turned them on this morning after drying them off and I am worried because I left it that way. I buried the airstone a little further into the gravel to try and lower the number of bubbles coming out but I think it's a pretty normal volume.

Should I be worried?

As always, thanks!

Assuming there is a transformer and it's outside of the tank ( probably a block type plug) there should be no problem. Those types of LEDs are 3 volt DC and the cable coming in is 12vdc. It won't conduct across water.

Yes! There is a block type plug I have in my outlet and a long wire on the end of it. The wire coming from the LED's connects to that wire, kinda like a headphone wire extender if that makes sense?

I would say the two ends KIND OF looks like this (not exactly but you get the idea )

Yep. Standard low voltage LED system. Water spray won't harm a thing. Just be sure you're practicing proper electrical safety with the plug end ( drip loop ). As you should be doing with your heater and filter as well.

I had a marineland hood kind of like that one but it has a shield over the led . I ended up replacing it with glass tops and new lights because the light was not bright enough. Before the light got here I slid the glass top in under the other hood. It fit under it fine.

I got drip loops on all my electrical gadgets for the tank

Thanks so much FishNstuff - I was about to call my dad and have him go over and turn off the airstone/lights in fear I was going to torch my house by the end of the day xD
