Honey gourami sex

HKsai

I have two honey gourami that I can’t figure out if they are boy or girl.

I was told the first one is a boy.it is smaller compared to the other one. The stripe is also not as prominent. I was told the second one is a female.

I believe that you are correct. Male gourami’s dorsal fins are more pointed at the end than female gourami, and their “rays” are usually longer than a females.

A good way of telling with Golden Honey Gourami is by the colour of the trim around the dorsal and analfins. Males will have a yellow trim and females will have a orange trim to them.
So by this standard they should both be female. The pointyness of the fins isn't typically a good tell with Honeys.

Definitely looks like a male to me.

So this is a male and a good example of what I was talking about with the trims of the dorsal. He clearly has yellow edging to them while the ones the op has are orange.
He also has a deep orangey red towards the back of the dorsal and analfins that females don't get.

Yup that makes sense. In a 20g, should get another male or a female?

I would get 2 or 3 females.

I wish but not enough room in my 20g community for 2-3 more fish
