Honey Gourami is a picky eater.

I've had my honey gourami for a few weeks now. He seems to be doing well, on and off he builds a bubble nest, I take this as a sign that he's probably happy. (in a quarantine tank with some other fish)

He's a picky eater though. I was wondering what everyone else feeds theirs?

I tried some flake food everyone else goes nuts for, crushed a frog pellet my other fish love, crushed some algae wafer...all no gos. He'll go up to them and not take any. I haven't tried bloodworms yet, I seem to be allergic to them so I only feed them on occasion.

He seems to love freeze dried tubifex worms though, but I don't want to feed that often since from what I've read freeze dried isn't very good for them, I got it more as a treat.

He eats slower than the other fish too so I've been hand feeding him. It's cute, I'll put my fingers in the water and he'll swim right over with his feelers out ahead and start nipping at the food.

What do you feed your gouramis?

 

Picky eaters are made, not born. He's probably just still acclimating to the new surroundings. Just put in the same food you feed the other fish. He'll eat when he's ready.

 

If you just offer him what ever you feed the most, he'll get used to it. He'll eat at some point, as its not in most fishes intrests to starve themselves to death lol Once he gets eating, my Opaline loooooooved Brine Shimp. When I fed BS, it was all hers and she wasn't sharing. She would chase the other fish away XD

 

My male HG is less interested in eating when he is busy with his nest building/guarding. Don't worry he will. Like mentioned, he likely needs to get used to his new place a little more. When he's hungry, he will eat

 

I've found honey gouramis to love spirulina flakes, they basically eat anything I put in though.

 

I suppose I'll just wait for him to come around then!

Where can you buy Spirulina? I looked for it at Petsmart but didn't see any.

 

I get mine from a LFS, gouramis love it and it's also very healthy.

I bought some Tetra Brand Spiralina flakes at Pet Supermarket.
