Honey Gourami Color Variants

Hi!

I'm interested in getting honey gourami and have questions regarding the females - can the females be brightly colored like the males are? I think I've seen pictures of female honey gourami in the past that looked just like the males, but I could be mistaken. I've read about the different color variations of this gourami, and my personal favorites are the golds and sunsets, so can the females be gold and sunset too?

Thanks

A bit off topic, but I think the sunsets are not natural coloring, I believe they are injected with dye. At least, that is what I've read elsewhere. Just something to consider.

Oh really? That's terrible.. But thanks for informing me. I'll be careful to keep an eye out for dyed fish.

You can probably see them hiding out it my profile picture, I keep four honey gourami. They are mixed sex and all of a similar colour. They feed a varied diet but occasionally are fed colour improving foods, which really helps to keep them bright orange with a shiny silver belly.

Beautiful, graceful, if a little timid, fish c:

The real, wild honey gourami is small. It is a beautiful fish - really stunning in breeding colour. The females are not colourful, and there is only one natural colour variety.
The ones I see in stores are usually twice the size of the original fish that had the name, and are hybrids from the fishfarms. Sometimes, you get lucky and see real honeys. They are great fish.

The bright orange Honeys are a hybrid color variant, not dyed. At least, I've never seen any that were dyed. is right, the real wild type is actually more beautiful in breeding color than any of the commercial variants.

Aww really? I would love to see a better pic of them, Samuel c: They really are some of the cutest fish I've seen.
It's hard to trust google when it comes to what is natural coloration and what isn't. I hope I find true honeys.

The ones I heard were dyed had blue added to them near the dorsal (?) fin. I believe they call them blue sunset and there are also green sunset, supposedly. I have not seen any in person.

IMG_4024.JPG SO to complicate matters here are my cute honey gouramis. They are passive in the group and very graceful fish. I love the look of them but better yet, they are mixed sex! Yet they all have the bright colouring.

I had to feed them to get good photos so apologies if food, a Cory or my single yet always active Molly gets in the way.

They are a group of four with albino corydoras and Amano shrimp, aswell as a single Molly whose shoal was re homed but I was too emotionally attatched to him to let him go. Enjoy the little photos ^.^
