Home(s) need ASAP!

This might be a long shot, but I figured it was worth a try!

This guy I go to school with is moving and won't be setting up his tank at his new place. He was just going to throw his fish in the garbage! I heard this and convinced him not to kill them and that I would find someone to take them. (I wish I had room for them but I definitely don't!) They are all kept in a 55 gallon tank right now, but I'm pretty sure each one needs at least that size by itself.

1 8" Oscar

1 8" Jack Demsey

1 10" goldfish.

They are located near Iowa City Iowa (eastern part of iowa) if anyone is near here and would like to help please let me know asap!

what's he doing with the tank? if you took the fish from him, would the tank go with them? you could maybe find a LFS that would give store credit for large fish like that.

Aren't gold fish usually the food for the others. That must be one heck of a goldfish to have survived! I also think that if the fish are healthy a LFS should be willing to take them. This seems to be the problem with ever buying a fish that has the potential of growing large..... I don't really have any constructive suggestions, although the time seems to be a factor, and if you could get tank and all, you may have the time to look for homes.

He wants to keep the tank so he can get fish in the future, and even if he wasn't, I do not have ANY room in my small house for another 55 gallon. I've called around to different fish shops, none have room for the fish. I could combine a few of my guppy tanks, but the best I could do would be a 29 gallon and 20 gallon to temp house them, and I really don't think that would be enough. I'm at a loss, nobody seems to have an empty 55 gallon that they are looking for fish for... I might try tomorrow going to each store and asking them, maybe an employee wants them or something....

yea, if we were closer, we would take them temporarily in the new 30 gallon tall until we found homes for them too. unfortunately shipping them would be pretty costly too, even if he knew how to ship them properly. the oscar & JD could go in your 29 gallon and the goldfish in the 20 gallon but like you said -- temp. solution. it'd buy you time to find them a home though. maybe you could do a post for them on the craigslist for your area?

I've posted a craigslist ad hopefully someone will want them. I only have til saturday (that when he has to be out of the apartment). i've set up the 2 tanks for them (luckily I had the extra running and cycled.) As a last resort I'll take them and keep them in the 29/20 until I can find them homes (hopefully asap)

I hope you do too, I wish we could help you find them homes. Maybe Dino would be able to? Since he's been monitoring the planet for so long...

I just love animals and hate to see them suffer or killed needlessly because the owner didnt look for a home or a home wasn't found soon enough. Still waiting on a home for them, if not I pick them up tomorrow at 3.
