Hole in head.

I'm concerned my 2.5 inch jack Dempsey may have hole in head. A few weeks ago he was flashing. I saw no visible trouble and left him alone. He has a small depression above 1 gill. I may have just not noticed it before. Is there any way to know for sure before its too late?

I read an article on here about carbon causing lateral line and hole in the head disease. I had a discus with it years ago, it doesn't kill then but he seemed to waste away.

Is there a reason for your doubts?

HITH is caused by internal flagelates to my knowledge. Those don't make fish "flash". It simply isn't one of te symptoms of HITH

I wouldn't worry over a little flashing. HITH lesions start like little pin holes that turn raw, usually red or pink, the grow in size to larger open sores. There is usually more then one as the parasite and disease has progressed by this point. You would also notice thick, white, snooty poo and a lack of appetite from your fish. Lastly, your fish would experience intermittent swim bladder problems by floating sideways or upside down. I don't think your fish has HITH.
