Hobbies other than fish keeping

Oh man, I just got finished playing Artemis with my friends... I spent some time playing engineer/helm, but ended up as captain most of the time, people seemed to think I was best at it. It was SO MUCH FUN. Everyone giving status reports, managing systems, handling communications, the chaos when shields would fail, trying to deal with a large enemy fleet, etc... It's just so much nerdiness. Funniest moment was when our tactical officer decided to drop a mine behind us in case a sneaky ship showed up, then when trying to make it back to a space station, our helmsman flew us right over it. It then became an intense effort to limp back to a nearby space station on low energy while trying to repair, all with two nearby enemy fleets closing in. Seriously, if you are a scI fI nerd, and have a few scI fI nerd friends, you need to get this game.

I also played Orcs Must Die 2 with a friend on Friday night. That was such a blast too.

Ohh...model rockets. I used to build and launch them when I was young. We had 50 acres so I could just launch them out my back door! Now i'm city bound so it's not so easy.

I like to travel. Last year I went to Vegas 3 times. According to my win/loss statement, I lost a total of 10 bucks. However, I have $550 in food and resort credits. Or I can get 250 in cash. This year I only have one trip planned and mostly paid for. I will be at Yellowstone National Park 12-28-2012 to 1-3-2013. I got the package deal. Includes food, cabin, OTS trans in/out and a tour of Canyon. $597.00

I also have a trip planned for March. My sister an I will be at the RIO 3-20-2013 to 3-26-2013. The room was part comped. I only have to pay 70 bucks for Friday and Saturday. The air was only $229.00. I'm paying for the rental car and my sister is paying for a zip line tour of Bootleg canyon. We're also going to drive to Zion National Park. Usually the park is closed to automobile traffic, but March cars are allowed. It's going to be awesome.

Do you guys have any other hobbies you enjoy?

One for me is "Spy" radios, or "numbers stations", and military stations that are really weird and you can't find the purpose for (broadcast some weird stuff)

Examples (CREEPY )

- The Swedish Rhapsody Numbers Station

- Backwards music station

My three favorites (Russian!)

- The Buzzer, the Pip, and the Squeeky Wheel.

Info on my fav (The buzzer):

(Wikipedia)

Frequently, distant conversations and other background noises can be heard behind the buzzer, suggesting that the buzz tones come from a device placed behind a live and constantly open microphone (rather than a recording or automated sound being fed through playback equipment)

The station transmits a buzzing sound that lasts 1.2 seconds, pausing for 1–1.3 seconds, and repeating 21–34 times per minute. Until November of 2010, the buzz tones lasted approximately 0.8 seconds each. One minute before the hour, the repeating tone was previously replaced by a continuous, uninterrupted alternating tone, which continued for one minute until the short repeating buzz resumed, although this no longer occurs.
The Buzzer has apparently been broadcasting since at least 1982 as a repeating two-second pip, changing to a buzzer in early 1990. It briefly changed to a higher tone of longer duration (approximately 20 tones per minute) on January 16, 2003, but it has since reverted to the previous tone pattern.

(Wikipedia)

In its 20-something year run, the sound has been interrupted only three times, the earliest known time being Christmas Eve in 1997. Each time a voice comes on and lists several Russian names and numbers before returning to the foghorn. The most recent occurrence was 2006, a mere three years before the time of this writing. It is clearly becoming more active after remaining quiet during the Cold War. (Corrected fact below)
The case gets more curious when you realize that the noise is apparently something held up to a live microphone rather than a recording or just some random feedback (distant conversations can be sometimes heard behind the sound, though they're difficult to decipher).
- from a "Cracked" article about 5 mysterious signals

----------

It hadn't been uninterrupted up till 2010 (except for voice messages, not for days at a time with no message) then it's had its days where it wasn't broadcasting, but it is still mostly known. (It now averages around 3-4 messages a year)

It's true purpose is still unknown. Some say it's a nuclear dead hand, some say spy station, but no one knows.

It's location was known but had changed to an unknown location.

The main hobbies I have is road biking in warmer weather and taking my 4 wheeler out into the fields and woods around my house. I used to mountain bike too, but I have ran out of people to ride with . Riding a mountain bike fast in the woods, alone, just spells disaster lol.

I have a lot of hobby's but when I get the real good hours to settle down I enjoy working at my Intarsia art. I started a couple of months ago but I think I will get pretty good at it.

I have so far completed a single "beginner" project of a whale and now I am halfway finished with a small trout (8") and starting on a larger version of the trout (16")

I play guitar, and love music!

Play hockey, tennis, and any sport that involves a net of some sort!

Still watching a movie is the first thing that comes to mind when I am bored, cause I love cinema!

Oh and I paint figurines, but that I guess I should not tell...

The Whale is 100% done. It was a simple piece. It is sanded, cut, and stained.

The trout has no lips, eyes, stain, rounding or sanding, the gill flap is still covered by the pattern. The gill flap and the head do not connect yet because I am still fitting a raised backing to it.

I used to play the drums and guitar forever ago, and I'm on multiple choirs (decent range from tenor to 1st soprano, the higher the better!) *think* Oh and I love cars, esp old muscle cars I wanna learn some mechanic-y stuffs and get an old Challenger and fix it up. Just for kicks and giggles!

I have been doing competitive bbq for 13 years. Next year I'm rolling out a very large competition in Chicago, hosted by KCBS. At least I'm trying to. Working with the city is a pain in the a$$. After that... Ill be opening my own restaurant/food truck.

Also into music, movies. Lots of that. I like MMA and boxing, hockey. Most other sports are just boring as . Love camping/hiking but don't get to do it as often as I would like.

SCA, Pennsic, World of Warcraft, reading.

Every time I try to get "crafty" it never turns out the way I envision it in my head, so I always give up after awhile on something like that, ie my art, creating garb and writing.

I used to make model boats, but it just got to take up too much time and got boring after awhile, sure it's nice to look at the boat you made but it too you 4 weeks to meticulously paint, lose tiny pieces you have to search for, and sometimes wait to finish a ship about 4 months for a shipment to come in with one tiny piece that wasn't in the kit. It was fun, but it also gave me a monster headache with the paint fumes.

all well. I sometimes make plane models though.

This is so so cool, very impressed!

I change my mind a lot, one week I'll be painting, next week shooting, next week sports. One thing I never get bored of is my beautiful animals
Although I've loved shooting at the gun range the past few weeks now, it's so fun! I think that might stick at that one for awhile.
