I wouldn't use the crowntail, IMO crowntails aren't the best looking fish and that other female has that nice pattern on her fins, I'd suggest her (in consideration that i dont really know much about their form and body shapes etc)
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of crown tail either. They look... shredded. I like HM and double tail.
I’ve had great luck with my blue female so far. Can’t wait to see what her babies look like with her first spawn I’m raising now.
Only issue with breeding is, I have no choice but to buy from people who don’t really know the genetics of the Bettas... so I have no idea what traits they will pass on. Good news is... I can narrow that down with selective breeding offspring. Choose my favorite from 2 spawns of the same mom, different dads, and try to control it that way, from the way I understand it anyway. You can even breed brother/sister

I was meaning to ask, what are you planning to do with your baby Bettas when they grow? Are you selling them? Taking them to a LPS?
I’m unsure what I’m doing with mine, I only have about 15 so I figured I’d just keep most of this batch.

I have around 180 so i won't keep them all. I might keep around 20 and sell the rest i dony think my LFS will take them all so i will sell them to people

I have 3 baby Bettas a co worker gave me as she couldn't care for them. She got them at Petco.
How do you keep so many in a tank and them not fight? Mine bickered enough to where I had to take the bullied one out. The other two get along fine.
How old are these guys that Petco sells? Anyone know???

You can never be exact because they might not have been fed properly or taken care of properly but id say around 2 months or 3

They all seem to be eating dry foods now (crushed up flakes). I'll try give them frozen foods tomorrow and see if they eat them, it's so much better now that i dont have to rely primarily on BBS because that was such a pain but i still am giving them some BBS either with every feeding or once a day or whenever i feel like it but they will get dry foods with every feeding now because i don't want them to get used to eating live foods only again

Look at this dark baby! So cute

I also just saw another dark fry with like lighter patches on his body so im guessing he's about to change colour

That fry which had lost its stripes and had red fins that i posted photos of yesterday, he's the fry with the dark body and lighter patches now. Almost all the swim bladder issues are gone and if you watch video (the fry which i focused on is the fry with patches but i dimmed the light so it's kinda dark in the video) https://www.fishlore.com/aquariumfishforum/media/34-day-old-betta-fry.248673/
you'll see that they start to get a tiny bit aggressive when i feed them

I couldn't get just 3 to play nice in a 75 gallon tank. Once I got 7 it was a much calmer tank. So I guess its the more the merrier.

I haven't actually tried a sorrority yet but i have heard from many people that their bettas kept getting aggressive when kept in pairs or groups of 3 but they were fine when they had 5 or more

I started with 3. It was super aggressive. With 5 it calmed down. With 7 it was a whole different tank. I'm up to 19 now and there is the occasional chase across the tank but nothing like having 3-5 of them. And I even have 3 males with them.

I actually prefer to get mine from places like petco (I go to pet smart) because they keep them in clear containers next to each other. So basically what happens is they get use to seeing all these other fish right next to them... I have a community of male and female. I’ve had the best luck with petsmart Bettas being friendly. When adding any new fish my dominate male will flare at it and chase it but he never “fights” other fish. It also helps to have tons of places for them to hide, and hang out so they’re not bugging one another. My Betta fish like to swim at the bottom in the plants a lot.

Right. In the town over we have this “thrift store” the local animal shelter opened, to help with food and medical treatment and such. I figured with ones I can’t sell or my LFS won’t take, I’ll donate some to that store to help them raise money for the shelter. Closest pet stores where I live are literally a state over... in Indiana. Closest in state would be near st.louis which is too far of a drive. The only private owned (not a chain) store I have around only takes male Bettas. But, she gets a lot of her fish from local breeders. She’s also the only place anywhere that sells brine eggs, that she orders specifically for her local breeders.

Some have colouring on their gills (doesn't show that much in the photo)
IMG_20190508_151122.jpg

Tried some "frozen lobster eggs" and they ate them. I also fed them 2 cubes of bloodworms along with some flakes this morning and they ate them and i feed them BBS like once every other day but only small amounts

I can’t wait to see what patterns they get!
Same! I'm so excited and i hope we get some lovely kois. Feeding them one cube of those frozen lobster eggs isn't even enough for them anymore so I fed them a cube of that and a cube of bloodworms but I might need to add some more food. I'm feeding them twice a day now. Largest fry are at an inch in length but last week i didnt do a water change for a whole week so that must have slowed down their growth for sure.

Im also seeing lots of fry with nipped fins and one even lost a ventral last week but its growing back slowly and just now i noticed one has a quarter of his ventral bitten off and im 100% sure it wasn't like that an hour ago

I want to name the two largest fry, any name ideas?

I’d suggest some names but I haven’t even named mine
They’re gorgeous
Mine are finally showing some color, but only a few are “big”
Some just aren’t wanting to grow...
I think it’s because I can’t keep enough brine to feed them... properly... and I only have 17.
So I ordered some micro worms from eBay, lol.
I’m working on my HMPK male koi now... he’s kinda weird... building a nest, wrapping female... but he can’t get his wrap right!
And the poor female just swims around him flaring like, please get these eggs out
Oh!
I wanted to share a method with you for cleaning the waste from tanks... because Bettas poop a lot... lol.
And when they’re small, this really works and helps to not suck any up...
I use a air hose... as a siphon... it’s small, so I can get out a lot of waste in small places without disturbing anything... and to water change with smaller fry, just ass a small air stone to the end of siphon sucking water, use a clip to hang it at the spot you want the water to drain, and it’ll drain without sucking up fry

Thanks for tips! I've actually used the air tubing as a syphon when they were in the 10gal but i cant anymore as the tank has gravel. I doubt microworms have any nutritional value for your betta fry since they have gotten bigger (or are they for other fry?)

They’ll be for the other fry, and just a substitute for my current fry... sometimes my brine don’t have a great hatch rate in time... even though I keep 2 hatcheries. In case of emergency figured it would be good to have a backup

Guys am i seeing correctly?? This fry looks like i can see its ovaries and an egg spot but they're only 46 days old so it's impossible for them to be mature already. The ovaries actually look like tiny eggs more than they do on camera. What are they?
