Hikari Frozen "ice cube" Foods

How do you serve up your ice-cubes?

Do you just drop them in the tank and let them melt?
Do you melt them in a cup then add them to your tank?
Or, do you melt them in a cup and pick out the worms or whatever it is that's in there?

I was curious about these foods, and was wondering what the concensus was on how people feed it to their tanks.

 

definitely thaw it I usually do it on a spoon and then when its all melted throw it all in. if you don't have a huge tank or a ton of fish half or a quarter of it is plenty I put a whole cube in my 10 gallon and it was worm city they were everywhere! hooray for blue lobster cleaning crew

 

we thaw the cubes in room temp. treated water and feed the fish from that, storing it in the fridge for up to a week or so.

 

By ice cubes you mean the kind we use in like ice water? and if yes shouldnt it be dechlorinated frozen water so its not melting un dechlorinated water into tanks?? Miley

 

I do different things for different tanks. In the betta tank I cut off a chunk of the cube and drop in there. Believe it or not Indigo loves to wrestle with them. He will grab onto the chunk and then shake it around, scattering the food through the tank, and then go back and eat. However, the puffer won't eat it frozen, so I break it up and put it in water to defrost.

 

I thaw them in dechlorinated water then pour all through a net and blot the net with a paper towel then feed to the fish and watch tehm go bonkers

no, the frozen food cubes like you see in the freezer at the pet stores. but you can make ice cubes with things like BBS to feed the fish and then you'd want treated water.

I thaw either brine shrimp or blood worms in a shot glass of tank water, then suck it into a syringe and feed it to the fish bit by bit to avoid making a mess with it. I find if I add it all at once, it scatters around the tank too much, and the brine shrimp typically go in the filters.

The fish recognize the syringe, and all come up to eat. I put in enough at a time so they don't have to fight. I typically feed one whole cube of one type early, and another have a cube of the other later. They also get flakes/pellets every other day(no BS/BW on those days), and the otos/pleco get fresh vegetables(zucchinI normally) daily. Cories get a few pellets at night, as the other fish don't leave much mess.

 

I really don't like the stuff they are frozen to go in my tank that's why I Thaw them in water then pour the water off and blot

For my Saltwater I thaw a peice of the cube in a shot glass of tank water. Then I pour a little bit at a time until I think they've had enough. Left overs go in the fridge for the next feeding. As for my FW, I do a combo. I add some whole frozen cubes for my Oscar and some thawed for the littler guys. When they are melted the Oscar has trouble getting enough to eat. He is a little piggy. I have to trick him to get him to eat his veggiesthough. I get him amped up with a little bit of something he likes then toss in an algae cube. He snatches them up before he realizes what they are. Gotta get your veggies Oscar.......... Yes my Oscar is named Oscar.

We get the frozen baggies from HikarI 2 in one pack. So we break little pieces off for the Betta...or I start with a chunk in the big tank, swish it around with my fingers...melts quickly...then I usually have enough worms on my fingers to feed the Betta. I don't want to give them too much at once...Jasper & Jewel will eat until they explode...but Sammy isn't as greedy.

I wouldn't throw a cube in the tank. we thaw ours in a small, sealable container with treated tap water and feed our fish from it for up to a week.
