High-quality pet stores?

Hello fish people,

I have heard that sometimes, you can't always trust "chain" pet stores like Petco and Petsmart. So, does anyone know any high-quality pet / fish stores I could visit with great prices? It doesn't even have to be necessarily "high-quality", it can just be a pet / fish store that YOU particularly like. Thanks!

P.S. I'm not, in any way, saying that I do not like "chain" pet stores. I love them. Great prices. I just wanted some opinions on other pet / fish stores, maybe some that people rarely hear of but are actually AMAZING places?!

 

I think your local (privately owned) fish store is always a great place to check out! As far as stores that are widely available, I like Petco a bit more than Petsmart.

 

We can't just give you locations that you won't be able to visit. There are members from different states and countries.

Local fish store would certainly be a tier above Petco, PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus, etc. It also comes with a slightly higher price since they actually take the time to quarantine their fish before it is sold.

My Petco is better than PetSmart since they carry more exotic shrimp and fishes. They even leave out a catalog and ordering form for you to special order items if you want.

Hey there neighbor! I had some trouble when I first started the hobby a few months ago. I had absolutely no idea how to find local fish stores. Still don't exactly I'm sure there are some near me I'm missing. But I did find a website called fishstoresnearme.com that works fairly well. I don't think it's the most up to date thing but gives a good idea. I found the local fish store I frequent on it. I've heard there's a lot of fish stores in the Chicago area so you should have lots of options. There's also a lot across the border in Milwaukee as well.

Also I second the motion of Petco over Petsmart.

I would do a search on google for fish stores near your area. There are some great ones in the Chicago area you can read reviews on google for. I’m in the Milwaukee area and my store is Aquatics Unlimited. If you have the desire to come check it out it’s an amazing place!
