Hiding Oscars?

Alright heres the problem, I jsut bought brand new oscars about 12 hours ago, I got a great tank (10g) for the while. (small fish gettin a 30 gallon when they larger). every time I come near the tank they hide? what's the problem I h8te when they hide cuaz I didn't buy fish to hide behide the rocks

 

I would give them a little more time to get used to their environment and everything. My african cichlids hid for a few weeks even, but now they are more relaxed and aren't startled as much. How is your tank decorated?

don't worry it's quite normal, they will be fine a few days later. they will adjust for the time being and after a few days later they will recognize you and even feed from your hands.

 

heres 1, I also have a blk one but hes hiding behid the rock

hers the second the whole tank (little messy atm) therr also not eating my pellet food its cichlid pellets pretty soon I'm gonna go get some goldfish if they don't eat

 

You're tank looks pretty well setup. I wouldn't worry about them not eatting at the moment, sometimes it takes them a few days to settle in and want to eat. Then that's all they'll want to do!

 

I had a same problem with my pleco. But after 2 or 3 days it started coming out more often and now it is much better.

 

After a move to a new environment, a lot of fish will be stressed and timid, some won't eat. a few more plants may make them feel less vulnerable and lower lighting at first.. do you have bloodworms for them?

 

never heard of blood worms? where do I get them? Well pretty soon I'm gonna get somne goldfish fopr therm to eat

 

You can find bloodworms at any fish store. Even walmart has them in the little fish food section.

 

a 30 gallon tank is no where near big enough for one Oscar, let alone 2. You'll need a 125 gallon tank, minimum, for that number. They need lots of room.

I have one in a 55 gallon and that's the absolute minimum.

Also, be prepared, as if they are males they won't be able to live together long anyways. Oscars will except, usually, an opposite sex member, but not the same sex.

Your Oscars will be fine, they are sulking currently. Give them some time and they'll snap out of it. I would, however, begin the process of getting a new tank(s) as Oscars will grow very quickly.

I haven't had mine a month and he's already doubled in size.

 

hey with oscars they like to sook in a corner so it is common for them to hide until they get use to environment
