Hi, I am new, I have a 10g tank with shrimp, ember tetras and a mystery snail. My only question is, my mystery snail only likes to eat algae tablets, not the algae growing in the tank.. I even stopped giving the tablets to try to get him to eat but to no avail. I introduced the tablet again and he ate like he was starving (and my tank was full of algae) is this okay?

That's okay. If your water parameters test well, the algae isnt an issue. Mystery snails eat pretty much everything, but algae on glass isn't their favorite IME. If you want a snail to take care of that, try ramshorns (voracious - but you will end up with a hundred of them) or perhaps a fish, particularly a glass clinger like Otocinclus.

Welcome to Fishlore! :)
Yeah snails are lazy like that sometimes. I wouldnt rely on anything to clean or eat all the algae for you. Some algae not everyone likes either, like BBA.

Hes your pet just feed him what he likes. ;) Have you tried fresh veggies yet?

I think Ember tetra can have 6-8 per 10 gallons, but they prefer a bigger school of 10-12+. DOnt quote me on any of this though.

Bigger groups for shoalers is always better - embers are luckily tiny so even a group of 10 would likely be well off in a 10g if parameters were maintained well.

Generally I say the minimum group size for shoalers is 6, but you will get happier fish and more strong shoaling behavior the larger group you get! Most of my schooling fishies are in groups of 8 to 12, except for the few geoups that are far older than the rest and jave lost members to age.

Welcome to the world's greatest forum!

It really depends on the algae type. Mystery snails only eat soft green and brown algae.

I don't have any algae so I wouldn't know how much they eat. Mine do love sinking wafers and blanched veggies.

I've never really known any critter to demolish algae though. The best solution is pristine parameters and 6-8 hrs. of daily light.
