I'm wondering if its possible this fish was mislabeled at the store and is in fact a different type of cichlid. . . red devil or pink jack dempsy maybe? I know a lot of cichlids look different as juveniles (both pattern and color). Can't say I'm an expert on these types of cichlids though so hopefully others will chime in.

It's indeed an Amphilophus. Wether it's A. citrinellus (Midas cichlid) or A. labiatus (red devil) I can't tell from the picture. But for sure no Thorichthys.
