Help with treating ich

I have been treating my fish tank with new guppies along with neon tetras and Otocinclus. I am using the heat treatment (80 F) and half the dosage of malachite green (kordon rapid-cure) for 5 days however I just noticed that one guppy died today. The ich has been slowly receding but the treatment says to medicate a max of 3 daily doses. Should I stop medicating to give my fish a break? Or will that just cause the ich to build up resistance?

I know I should have my heat up at 86 degrees but my heater only lets the water heat up to 80 (I have my tank in a room where my heater has a hard time reaching it so the room is usually 70 degrees or below) and I have been watching my catfish’s reaction to the meds and they seem fine with it.

I also have a 29 gal planted tank so I’m afraid of using salt.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi!
I will admit that here is the first I am hearing of such a heat n salt treatment. But I would not recommend continuing that method as it would be ineffective, as ich can live in 86F.
If that medicine hasnt done much of anything by now, then I think its time to switch. Here is the medicine for ich that is mentioned in that above article and same brand you were using before. If you do switch, give it some time in between so you are not over medicating.

Now are you doing water changes through this?

Thank you so much for replying!

And yes I have been doing about a 20% water change with a gravel siphon each day, but there are still small outbreaks. I admit it has brought the number of spots down on my fish but they’re still present.

I was worried that my treatment wasn’t working and was wondering when I should change gears so thanks for the second opinion. Ill get that new medicine and try it in a few days.

I’m treating ick now in a quarantine tank and being honest with your doing great so far with a higher temp and medicating but it’s a process ... a daunting and annoying process. I have the Kordon Ich plus recommended to you and a higher temp it’s still a process. Patience and water changes is all you can do while you medicate. I haven’t have a death yet luckily but if I did I honestly couldn’t be too surprised. The fish we receive all come in different healths and can tolerate all different stress levels . Don’t take it personal, hang in there and keep doing what your doing . I’m sorry for your loss . Update us . -OPN

Good good
Once ich gets comfy it can be pretty persistent, so you will have to be just as persistent with your treatment. Keep at it and don't worry about fast results.
Also, I would check the medicine for mentions of water changing, I know some have special requirements.
Keep us posted!
