Help with sick fish, tiger barb wound

Hello. I have a 55g with around 19 tiger barbs and I’ve had no issues for months until recently where I found this poor tiger barb separated from the others and just hovering in the tanks with this wound on him. At first he had a lil bit of bit flakey flesh hanging from it which made me believe perhaps some of the other tigers nipped at him. I’ve never had any other issues with aggression or issues. I’ve so far moved him into a quarantine tank and wondering if any of you have seen a similar wound? I’m really hoping it’s from just nipping and not some form of illness. Please let me know if you recognize the cause of it and or what treatment plan you suggest or if he’s too far gone. Thank you

Is he still eating? Any other notable symptoms?

I believe he’s stopped eating actually. I personally believe his wound is too far gone for him to recover. He just kinda hovers at the top. Very sad honestly. I just really hope it’s not some form of bacterial infection or fungus, parasite etc. like I’ve mentioned before, no issues for months until now with him.

If he’s stopped eating his chances of recovery are lower. It does look like it is kinda white around the wound so their might be a bit of fungus. My guess is that he may have gotten nipped and some sort of bacteria or fungus got into the wound and infected it. How long has the wound been on him?

I have been working a lot lately so haven’t been able to treat him properly until today and I would say it’s been at least 3 days since I first saw the mark on him

If you want to do treatment I would say to use some kind of general cure for bacterial and fungal infections. I would also recommend to keep his water extra clean to help prevent further infection. If you have API stress coat you could add a bit of that into his water to help with his healing.

Thanks for the advice and yes I always use stress coat. So you recommend the api general cure? I have some of that still from the past.

Yes the api general cure would work. If you have maracyn that could also work. If you have some aquarium salt or any non-iodized salt it would help too.
Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately the poor tiger barb passed away last night. He looked like ****! I had a feeling it was too late. But I will try the medication path if this issue happens in future

I am sorry to hear that your fish died. I am sure it lived a great life. Hopefully in the future you can save other sick fish.
