Help with my very aggressive Midas fish

Hey guys.
I need to help with my midas as I’m pretty sure I know what he’s trying to do as the tank I have him in only a 55g and I’m looking for a bigger tank as we speak.
I have taken a shirt video of him and it’s a little blurry as I’m sitting on the couch watching him and it seems to me like he’s really trying to break thru the glass, if you really take note of his mouth movements on the right side of the tank.
PH 7.0 amm 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 15ppm. He’s roughly 25cm. Not sure if I can upload videos on here.
Please tell me I’m wrong and he’s not trying to break the glass cos he’s not comfortable in his environment. I mean I know he isn’t, but he need to wait just a little while longer till I find the the right tank and the cycle period as well.
He’s really starting to worry me now, am I going nuts?

He might be trying to fight his reflection. I've had a betta that would always flare at a specific corner of the tank

Looks like a healthy Midas to me.
It's not unusual for them to dig & rearrange the decor. As noted above, attacking It's own reflection isn't a concern either.
When the Midas gets a bit bigger don't be surprised if the Midas tries to bite your hand during weekly maintenance.

So so you think the tank size he’s in would be ok? I’ve take out a heap of the gravel to make more water space for him and k wanna try and take off the 3D background as well but have no idea how to do that without ruining the cycle and emptying the tank with the midas in it? I’m also worried cos the glass isn’t as thick as they’re supposed to be for these fish. It’s only 6mm, when for midas they recommend 12mm?
Any ideas how I could do that easily?

A 55 gal. is going to be tight for an adult Midas. No need to remove the substrate. If properly maintained the substrate becomes a vital part of the denitrification process.
Once the Midas reaches the 9 inch mark, be a good idea to find a 90+ gal. tank.
Big Cichlids like a Midas are potential tank busters. The thin glass of the current tank is concerning.

Awwww, he's just ornery because he's looking for love in all the wrong places. :)
