Help With My 29 Gallon Dirted Tank

Hey everyone,

So I last week I started my first attempt at a dirted 29 gallon tank. The tank is dirted and capped with eco complete red. The tank is cyclying with a couple of plants, Java fern, anubias nana, water sprite, a ludwigia, water wisteria, and java moss. The tank also has a large drift wood. The tank feature some small lava rocks here and there. So I have a couple of questions, the dirt is currently leeching tannins and the tank is still cycling with readings of: 7.6 pH (which I know goes up and down while cycling), ammonia 1.0ppm, nitrite and nitrate 0 ppm. Basically I’m asking would doing water changes during the cycle disrupt the cycle?

What’s on my java fern?

It might slightly prolong by a few days or so it due to water changes diluting ammonia/nitrite, but it wouldn't be an especially significant effect.

I'd go ahead and do the water changes, especially if you don't like the water tint.

In addition, that looks like black brush algae on your java fern. It'd be a good idea to eliminate traces of it ASAP to prevent its spread, either by cutting off the leaf entirely or using hydrogen peroxide or Seachem Excel and spot treating it. Generally 3 ml of a 10% hydrogen peroxide solution per 10 gallons of water should be safe. For Excel, spot treat with however many ml as recommended on the instructions.

Would the constant water changes affect the dosing in the tank?

I have the black brush algae too. How much of a 3% solution should I use?
