Hi guy any advice appreciated sorry for the length of the post

I have a established little 36 litre tank all going good my question is I’m thinking of getting a second tank I’ve heard of the instant cycle with filter media from my 1st tank

my question is in my first tank I only have the sponge and a carbon filter running would it be ok to add bio noodles to my established tank leave them in for 6 weeks or so then when I set up the new tank place them in there to instantly cycle the tank

would this affect my current set up in my first tank also could I just put some sponge media in the bottom of my tank on the substrate for s period then simply move that to the new tank

sorry for the long winded post cheers guys
Attached is a pic of the noodles I’m talking about

Yes, this would work. But 2 things. . .
1. Your new tank will only be cycled to handle the bioload of the existing tank, so be careful stocking the new tank.
2. After you start stocking the new tank, test your water parameters daily for a week or so to confirm it’s cycled. I never assume tanks have instantly cycled.

I think to seed media for use in another tank you should probably have it running in the existing filter for best results - having it just sat in the tank won’t do much, if anything, to seed it.

My bad if that’s what the OP intended to do. The noodles should definitely be placed in a filter (old filter or whatever filter is planned for the new tank?).

I'd dose both the old and the new tank with Prime for a couple days. Your old tank will have less filtration for a short while after you remove some of the media.

I have a hang on the back filter with spong then carbon filter then there is a volume before the pump so would you use the noodles or a sponge in that space then if I take it out would that affect the original tank cheer

What type of filter do you plan to get for the new tank?

I’d suggest one of 2 or maybe 3 things. . .
1. Place the new noodles in the existing HOB and let it run for 4 - 6 weeks.
2. If it wouldn’t create too much flow in your existing tank, get the new filter now and let it run on your existing tank (alongside your old filter) for 4 - 6 weeks.
3. Take some media from your existing filter and place it in your new filter. While you need to be careful not to take too much and jeopardize the cycle on your existing tank, this will at least give the cycle on your new tank a jump start.

You need to add enough from your old tank to your new tank to handle the bioload you plan to add. Otherwise it just speeds up the cycle, not instantly cycle it.

Yes. Six weeks should be enough. Though you'd also want to up feeding in that time.

Most likely not.
