Good afternoon fish lovers
Hope everyone day is going good
So Tommorrow is firday and I plan to make a trip to the fish store. I currently have 12 fishes in my 30G. 6 danios n 3 tiger barbs n 3 green barbs. I'm planning to rehome the danios and were thinking of a easy way to catch these lil ones. My plan was to feed them a lil then scoop it up with the net.
Any ideas?

I just use my hand to drive me fish towards the net, or poke any heavily planted areas with a stick (I have a chopstick specifically for this!) until they come out. I drive my fish towards the front of the tank, were I net them against the glass so I can see what their doing when I take the net out.
I also try to be really quick, diving the net in and just seeing what I come up with. Be careful with that method, though, It's a bit rough and I only use it when I have to get my fish out quickly.

Thanks. It doesn't sound that bad .
Do you have the bag with water half way and drop them in one by one.
I just have a good feeling when they see the net they will swim at the bottom on the tank

Danios are a pain to catch. What I would suggest is that you find some type of divider, and herd them towards one side, that should make it easier to catch.

I forgot to add..make sure that the divider is the total height of the tank, this way they can't get away from you by swimming underneath the divider.

You can use 2 nets, one to guide them to the other or if you have some time, do the breeder trick I use.

When I had about 50 babies to catch, I used the true and tried "bottle" method - I loaded up a water bottle with sinking pellets. Danios are nosy/curious by nature so I would get a few, then put them in a mesh breeder I had already hanging on the side of the tank. Once I had all the danios in the breeder, I can just lift the whole thing up and put them in a plastic bag filled with tank water!
Took me a week but got them all!

That's a good idea. Seems a lot easier trying to catch them in a quarter of the tank
Lmaoo Ikr they would easier swim up

A week! Lol. Seems like a lot of time
Did you catch them one by one?

Their always curious.
If only I could find a way to put some food in the net then lift it up when one or two comes by
Or maybe try hand feeding them with the net close by.
I know this will be a little tricky

No usually got about 10-15 at a time - I made the hole in the cap small enough for the babies to get through but no one else.

Good luck!

Well I just catch my fish like everything else. I don't do anything special. I just kind of zoom the net under them and scoop them out.

you make it sound so easy. I'm sure they swim away when they see the net in there

Yeah you just have to chase them or get them into a corner. The hardest one I've ever had to net was a clown loach. Boy those things are fast!

I get the net wet, then keep it out of the water until they come back up. I always have at least one fish near the surface at all times (just hanging out, not gasping). I then dive the net into the water really quickly, and then check to see who I've caught. Whenever I have to put fish in a bag or something, I use a container first. I'll gather then into there, then gently pour them in the bag. I do it sideways so they won't hit the bag hard and get hurt

Sounds good. N easier. Yep their at the surface at times.
*do you full the container with your tank water?

Yes, I have a 1/2gal container I use for my fish. I fill that about halfway, maybe 3/4 way, with tank water. Then very gently pour them into whatever your using to move them.

While zooming and surprising your fish are ways other people do it. I take a slower approach. Take a net set it below the targeted fish heard the fish above the net and slowly raise the net. It's easier than you think. Patience is key to fish keeping. Far too many I've seen people swish and a dead fish comes out

Thanks a lot. Good idea. The last thing I wanner do is kill one of them. I'll take it slow. They always curious so hopefully it's not a headache catching all 6!

I'm a fan of the slow and steady method like Teishokue. Catching fish during a 50% or more water change is definitely easiest in my opinion, though. Two nets.

Cool. Sounds good. I'll do WC and then try to remove them. I'll buy another net. Set both nets in the tank and push one net towards the other one.
Just hopin everything goes smooth

OK. So when I have helped people rehome fish and really depend son how many fish you are doing if this is even reasonable., here is what I have done. This is a be patient thing though. Will also be usable for acclimation too. Soo here it goes...

Get 2 solo cups for each "group".
Put small slits in the bottom of one
place the slitted one inside one that does not have slits.
Put the cup into the water and herd the fish into the cups ((have done the food pellets too for some fish that love to eat and Danios LOVE to eat))
Once herded into the cup remove it and pour out some water so there is enough for them.
Then you can float the cup or do a drip acclimation in the cup.
Once acclimated you can pull the inside cup out and put in the tank allowing them to swim out. This way you don't transfer any water form old tank to new ((if you are worried about it))

The solo cups are WAY cheaper than an acclimation box that does the same thing. Just my 2 cents.

The best method I have found for fish like danios is to wait until the room is completely dark. Then, I would turn on the room light (not fish tank) and the danios would be at the very top, motionless. Scoop up a few until they start moving fast again, turn off light, wait 15min and repeat.
This is how I managed to get 12 danios and 9 tiger barbs out of my 75gal

Oo wow. There sounds good ideas but don't u think it would be harder to do it with a cup rather than a net

catching fish in any manner is like herding cats...

((on a TOTALLY unrelated note. Really Holden for a 4th round pick?? He's not worth more than MAYBE a 6th round pick))

Just a update. I chose to go wit the idea using 2 nets. It took about 25 mins. They were fast tho.

Thanks to everyone who suggested ideas
