Help With Blood Parrot

HI there,

Firstly, I'm sorry if this is the wrong section. I am new here and looking for advice and help.
I have a blood parrot that appears to have chunks out of his head. I'm not sure if this is from an aggressive convict cichlid(his only tank mate), self injury on stuff or a form of illness.
Water perimeters are all normal.

Thanks for your time

Do you have any sharp plastic plants or jagged rocks? Even lava rocks?

Convicts are brutal, absolutely brutal especially a breeding pair they turn into minI doviis. I’d suggest rehoming the convict if you care about your fish, I had a breeding pair I got rid of due to how insane they are and they are pure devils. It’s 100% your doviI and blood parrots are normally on the docile side of cichlids. I have one myself with Oscars and firemouths

He has a tendency of hiding out in a decoration but always keeping an eye on what's happening outside the tank and I feel he could be hitting his head on it.
I will start taking out decorations I think could be the issue I just wanted to make sure it isn't an illness.

I will go ahead and move the convict to another tank. I've never seen any aggression out of the blood parrot but I've heard convicts can be bad but that was after I took him home awhile ago.

He may be running/swimming fast and getting careless out of fear. Moving the Convict is a really good idea. Since you have an injury to your Blood Parrot, make sure to keep up with your water changes as clean water helps healing. Good luck! I love my Blood Parrot!

This appears to be hole in the head disease, or Hexamitiasis. It’s a parasite that's eating your fish, to give you the straight forward answer. Immediate dose of API General Cure should be done.

To ensure a better chance of fighting off the disease, a properly balanced diet with variety and pristine water quality has to happen.

Good call AquaticJ! I had not seen that picture. I agree with you and meds and clean water should help and moving the Convict as stress and poor water conditions equal disease!
