I'm buying some anacharis... and I been researching and still a little confused... how do I make them save for my tank? I read to soaked them with bleach solution(but some don't recommended, it hurt the plant.). the local pet store say to soaked them in salt water and others said to do some peroxided. I willing to try the peroxided treatment, but to get it done.. need some help... I will appreciated..

thank you in advanced for any help...
trying to put it in a 5 gallon tank with 3 ghost shrimp, 1 clown pleco, 1 betta

I don't do anything with plants when I get them.

On another note, a 5 gallon tank is really too small for a clown pleco.

what are you worried about that you will need to dip the plants?

Personally I just add mine to the tank. If it is for snails a dip and short soak in peroxide will be fine. Basically just need to put them in and let them soak for a little bit ie less than a minute or so and give a little rinse, any extra peroxide will not hurt the tank at least in the smaller quantities as when it reacts with water it forms.....water.

I don't do anything to my plants either. yes I have snails, but I dn't care.

I agree, a clown pleco is too small for a 5g

Are you worried about some kind of bad bacteria or pond snail on them or something?

I personally don't do anything to my plants before I add them. I have a trusted plant source. So, you shouldn't be worried if you trust the source that you are getting it from.

If you are afraid of getting ponds snails, don't be. Pond snails are actually quite cool to have and if you don't over feed your tank, they won't over populate (their population depends on how much you feed. If any left overs are on the bottom, their number will expand, but no excess food at the bottom will keep them at a stable population).

well he only said some... lol

I have PS in my large tank and for now there just being left to their own devices, I kinda like them it gives the tank a natural look. Now I can't say too much for them if I get some clown loaches later on lol.

I love snails, snails are great, etc. etc. etc.

Except they all vanished the moment I added my dwarf cajun crays into my 55 gallon.

But yeah, don't hate on snails, also, I'd be careful of dunking anacharis in salt water since it'll probably kill the plants.

yeah different types of things, like bleach, alum, peroxide etc....will have different effects on different plants. the more delicate plants, like crypts and I *think* vals will melt if you use the wrong thing. anacharis....hmmm. well it is a stem plant, and those can be more fussy at times. but it's usually pretty hardy. but you might wanna make sure befor eyou do it.

You can also let the plant sit in a bucket of water after rinsing w/ water. Any snails should show themselves after a day or two.
