I have an angel that has been nipped by another fish and I’m afraid his wound is infected... or does he have ich ? One side of him has a large white wound and the other side of him looks like possible white spots or possible layer of slime. No other fish are affected.

Do I treat with some sort of antibiotics ? Ich treatment ? Fungal ?

Don’t go treating with anything until you’re certain. Are you able to remove the angel and place in QT or hospital tank?

It could be bacterial, especially as seeing as there is a wound present.

What are your water conditions like? I’d be making sure the water is clean, doing daily pwc’s.

It would be better to move the angel out of that tank though and treat by itself if possible. This will also help if you do need meds.

It doesn’t look like ich. You would know if it was, as you would see a ‘peppering’ of what looks like salt over it.

Do you know what fish caused the injury?

Also is that a molly or betta in with the angel? If the latter, I don’t keep either fish, but I would hazard a guess saying that they’re probably not that compatible with each other - see what some others here think.

If it is a larger, open white spot. I would guess it is something bacterial. The 'white' area is the fleshy skin underneath the fish's scales. If left untreated it'll probably get worse. I would quarantine and treat with either furan-2, triple sulfa, or myracin 2...But with each of those it really depends on what is actually wrong with him/her. It it's not a bacterial infection than none of these medications will work.

If you have the ability to QT I would do that. Clean and frequent water changes will help. Monitor it so it doesn’t get infected.
