Hey guys so while I was setting up my betta tank I had my betta in a fish bowl I know it wasn't the best thing for him but I had no other option, anyway the fish bowl sat higher up on a shelf so I couldn't really look over my betta I just fed him and did some water changes, I put him in his Fluval spec 5 gallon aquarium yesterday day and today I was watching him to see how he was doing and I noticed this on him, are those brown spots normal, when I got him he already had some but they look like they've grown

It could be some kind of bacterial infection from the bowl. Was the water treated in the bowl, and how long was it there for? Hope it's all okay

He was there for about 2 weeks and yes the water was treated and I cleaned the bowl every week and did a 50%water change halfway through the week

Call me crazy, but your betta looks healthy to me.

I heard bettas can change their colour sometimes as the grow into an adult, but your looks like it's an adult already. If it's suddenly appeared, that's a bit odd... but yh, it does look healthy tbh

Could be a small color change if he's got a marble gene in him or something. The better environment could have triggered it, even being in the bowl. It is better than a cup he looks good to me, and beautiful too!

Thank you so much I'm putting my stress aside and letting him enjoy his new tank

Just keep an eye on it though, if it keeps growing and he starts acting funny like being lethargic or not wanting to eat or something, post it on the forums (better to be safe than sorry). But in all honestly, it doesn't look like anything to me. As long as he is acting fine, the coloration doesn't have a bump or fuzzy stuff or anything else attached to it, and he eats good, then that is a pretty darn good indicator that he has a marble gene and you're a good fish parent
