Help: Unknown disease German Ram

HI FL, my Male German Ram cichlid has been bulging with a big body for the past week and not moving in my 50gallon. For the past three months, he had the most impressive black markings of my Rams and seemed like some Alpha male, owning the biggest drifwood in the tank.
two days ago, he suddenly inflated to massive proportions(and by MASSIVE I really mean he is bulging like some 100pound obese man) and his eyes and mouth seem to be swollen. He barely moved the whole day and is now residing in a clay pot hidehole. After Googling, I still have not found out what is happen to him. Please help!
Water parameters are all 0 and fine.There are 5 Flame Honey Dwarf Gouramis, 3 similar Rams,3 somehow non-aggressive tiger barbs and 7 pepper corys in the 50 gallon with him.

My guess is dropsy. Are his scales sticking out like a pinecone? Unfortunately, once the swelling starts it is often fatal. I've read of using epsom salt baths in an attempt to relieve some of the swelling.

Thanks for the replies. Yes his scales were sticking out. I sorely regret not being able to save him. He went today. I probably should have euthanized him yesterday too. But thanks for the help anyway~
