Help Treating Velvet

One of my male bettas has recently come down with a rather severe case of velvet. I want to know which route is most likely to help the most; Prazi-Pro, Paraguard, or a high dose salt bath once a day. I've had success with the salt method before but the velvet was much less severe then it currently is. he's growing more lethargic by the day, even with a total black-out, so I think it may be time for a more severe course of treatment.

I would use malachite green. I would do this in a different tank as sometimes it can stain silicone. I would let his main tank go fishless for 3-4 weeks to make sure any free floating velvet dies off. If velvet doesn’t find a host within 24 hours, it dies. But you want to make sure it dies off in every stage of life before adding him back in to the tank.

I have nothing cycled I could move the fish too so he’ll have to stay in his 2.5 for treatment. I don’t have any malachite on hand, only the meds I listed above (salt, prazipro, Paraguard). Seachem says Paraguard can be used and recommends a 14-21 day regimen for velvet.

Does anyone have any experience treating it successfully with either of those meds?

I wouldn’t use salt or prazi, I would just use the paraguard. PrazI is more of a dewormer than a treatment for velvet, it’s also very gentle and I think you need a more aggressive treatment. I would do the 14-21 day treatment and if that doesn’t work, I would get some malachite green. I haven’t used paraguard before. I’ve used prazI with no success. Malachite green is what helped when my betta had velvet.

What symptoms are you seeing? A betta with velvet will usually act like they're itching and will attempt to rub off on things. For treatment, I've never used paragard for velvet, but as mentioned, meds containing malachite green, like Betta Revive or API Fungus Cure are good recourses.
AFAIK, paragard does also contain malachite green - if that is what you have on hand, use it, but if it doesn't seem to be helping, I would (as mentioned above) recommend grabbing a stronger source of malachite green.

The betta in question had a metallic sheen to him and tended to sleep under his bridge ornament which gave the illness a chance to get rather severe. He's become a lot less active, clamped fins, and gold specs cover most of his body (He also has an odd "look" to him, when viewing without the flashlight). I wasn't aware Fungus Cure was malachite green based and actually do have some of that on hold so ill give that a go.
