Help! There's A Weird Cyst/egg Sack Looking Thing On My Bettas Pelvic Fin!

I'm freaking out! My betta has developed a very off looking spherical cyst/egg sack thing! I have no idea what it is! and this condition is not described in any of the betta/fish diseases i've researched. attached are pictures.

you can't tell from the pictures but it appears to be growing out of his pelvic fin. there's a tiny piece of fin stretched out of the middle of it...almost like his fin ripped where this thing has grown out. this has had to of developed overnight. on his opposite side right where his pectoral fin meets his body it almost appears as if a scale is detaching. last night I went to bed admiring how much his fins had grown back.

is this a parasite?

I bought this betta at the beginning of last month from Petco. he was purchased with a bad case of fin rot.....I had no idea it was fin rot. I'll admit I completely jumped into this with no research...i've owned bettas before but have never had a proper filtered/cycled tank. i've learned everything I could. got him a fluval spec v. cycled it fishless with ammonia....i'm trying to give this guy the best life possible. this is definitely a set back!

he is eating fine. always wants more. greets me. loves his new home...is in every corner of the tank all day long. he is very active....he has perked up considerably since moving.

I treated him for fin rot using HikarI Betta Revive. I now know all about the better medications. and wish I would of treated him with Kanaplex for the fin rot. but his fins are growing back! unfortunately I am thinking the damage to his dorsal fins could be permanent. the fin rot has improved considerably!

I am at a loss! and freaking out!!!! the only meds I have on stock are the rest of the Betta Revive and Seachem Stress Guard, which isn't technically a medication....the tank is so new I don't want to have to dose meds in it. so I'll have to move him.

any help would be great. my parameters are fine. my temp is 81.8. he has only pooped twice since I moved him sunday morning.....I have worried about that a little but he isn't bloated.

Now, first off breathe. You have a lively, beautiful betta. He looks robust and healthy enough to fight off most problems. I would stop medicating him until you know exactly what's wrong. The people on here are fish geniuses. You will find out.
Also I have been learning that Bettas carrying the dragon scale gene are much more prone to tumors. I had one very similarly colored to yours with thick looking blue scales on his back , but not a true Dragon. He developed a tumor and maintained his activity level and appetite. The tumor eventually disappeared completely and he lived another 2 years happy healthy and sleeping in his moss tree a lot. Essentially he died in his rocking chair. So don't worry so much. I wish you well.

thanks for the response. I appreciate it. he hasn't been medicated since I moved him from his hospital tank on sunday morning to his new home. thank you for your compliment on my betta. he is definitely looking great. and the fin rot is healing great....

i'm breathing! I did add some Seachem Stress Guard to the tank. but that is all.

are you saying my betta has the Dragon scale gene?

i've also read that sometimes betta's just develop pimples? lol.

thanks.

lol...yeah...maybe he's just going through puberty. I used to keep a rediculous number of bettas, and used to put aquarium salt in his water about a scant tablespoon per 5 gallons. Also you might try Indian almond leaves, the tannins they leach off will sooth his "skin". I just love Bettas.
happy aquariuming

oh and yeah....he's probably carrying the genetic marker for dragon scales, but it isn't showing up in appearance. Just don't breed him, or do...its an ethical decision. For example the rosetail betta...I love them!!! Absolutely stunning fish, but should we be breeding them to be so heavily finned they can barely swim?
I don't know. I hope we will eventually be able to "breed out" these problems, but time will tell.

Hello! Your betta looks fine! I don't know what that thing is but if your water is clean then it should go away with time. Stop medicating him and just do your weekly water changes also you shouldn't breed pet store bettas because you don't know they're genetic history and you might get sickly fry

THANK YOU! He has been off the Betta revive since sunday. and is healing well...the black spots in the photos aren't actually black, they're blue....he's growing his fins back. There are a couple of spots I am still deciding if there is growth....but the main fin rot is indeed coming back. I've really gotten super obsessed with this fish.

I did add a dose of Seachem Stress Guard (1.75ml for 5G) and oh my goodness....that weird zit/cyst/whatever thing has definitely gone down....it almost looks like it's 'popped.' So that was a minor freak out....he is okay. There's nothing sharp in the tank....so i'm not sure. I didn't know betta's could get little ailments as such.

Thanks for the responses!!!

I am definitely not going to become a betta breeder. First, I had absolutely no idea it was possible to love and care about a fish as much as I do now. WHOA! There is no way I could handle the pressure of making sure everyone I spawned was well taken care of. Let alone the cost involved to provide such care. And then there's the even greater pressure of wondering if all of them ended up with loving caretakers who knew what they were doing (i'm still figuring that out) and provided such care. NO THANK YOU! I will just end up with a couple of tanks...couple of bettas....a mystery snail or two....and PLANTS! which is my next endeavor.

I just feel so bad I had no idea he had fin rot when I purchased him. I honestly thought his fins were supposed to be all....ummm, what's the word.....choppy and flow-ie. I'll go with that. And I kept him in a 1.75 Gallon fish bowl I picked up at Garden Ridge....so I just feel bad. Thankfully I am way educated and on top of this now.

Thanks so much. yes, i'm very much an over explainer. Sorry about the long response. I really appreciate everyone on Fish Lore very much.
