HI can someone help me with some advice please my texas have layed around 300 eggs I think I'm sure they are eggs . What should I do? Will my other fish eat them ? The texas are being protective and will not leave the rock 1 of them are picking up the sand and moving it and the other 1 is hovering over the rock. How can I create hiding spaces for when they hatch I also have a big pleco and apparently they love to eat eggs ?
Someone help me pls as this is the first time I am expiriencing this.

Check out the video I have taken.

I have placed a plastic container in the tank and have made small holes for the fry to hide once they have hatched? Is this good enough? Should I place the plastic container on top of the rock to guard the eggs from being eaten by other fish?
Here's the container

Please someone help I don't have a clue

Don't use the plastic container. If you leave a light on in the room overnight, just enough for the fish to see, then the parents won't let anyone eat the eggs. They will also not want any other fish in the tank as they are now a threat. Texas are aggressive cichlids. Its unwise to breed then in communities (if you have a male and female they will probably breed).

The best advice is to remove the other fish...

Thanks for the reply.. is there anything else I can do as I don't have another tank for the other fish. And I don't want to get rid of them. Why can I not leave the plastic container inside the tank? What if I get a fry breeding trap one of them plastic boxes and put the eggs in there will that work?

You should let the parents raise them. But your best option, assuming you want to raise the fry, is get another tank.

The parents won't let you interfere with their eggs.

You'll have to get rid of something at some point. The growing fry will overload your tank. If you remove the eggs the parents will just lay some more. They can do that every two weeks.

Right I have bought another tank how do I get the eggs into this new tank how do I go about it.. will it be safe to do so?

Or should I wait for them to hatch and then try and catch the fry. Some of the eggs are starting to turn white now.

Can some 1 please suggest something please is it possible to take the eggs out will they still hatch if I remove them???

They probably will, you're better off pulling tank mates & leaving the parents with the spawn, or putting the pair in their own tank. You'll have a lot of little fish soon, that won't stay little for long.

Can I just put the eggs in the new tank.. the new tank is not big enough for my tank mates it will be way over crowded. I heard that if I touch the eggs the parents will not want them and eat them is that true ? So am I better off leaving the parents and just take the eggs???

You go for the eggs the parents are most likely to go for you, keep a net handy to chase them off or ignore being nipped. Moving the eggs may or may not throw the parents off, every pair is individual like that. You could hatch them in their own tank, but be prepared for a lot of fish!

I think that would be my best bet to take the eggs out I don't have a 2nd filter and heater so for now I will scoop out the eggs into the net fry trap until my new heater and filter get delivered for the new tank. Do u think the mum and dad will try to go the the fry trap ?

If they don't beat the snot out of the fry trap trying to get to the eggs the other fish will.

They either got eaten or they hatched & the parents moved the wigglers. See if the parents are hanging around & guarding a certain area.

Nope deffo no fry in there.. I'm really upset that the eggs have gone as I was going to separate them today.

My stupid brother over fed them last night wen I was at work and all the food sunk to the bottom as it was floating for so long, so I dug all the food out with a net so it doesn't cause nitrates and any other harmful bacterias ... maybe that stressed them out?

So as it stands now there is no eggs or fry and the male and female are chasing each other? What could the reason for this be? Are they likely to lay eggs again?

So stressed out that I have woke up to nothing!!!

Spawns getting eaten overnight is pretty common in a community tank. A bit of aggression from the pair afterward is as well, keep an eye on them to make sure it doesn't go too far.

Most likely they will spawn again, I'd move them to their own tank before it happens.

Sounds like my black convicts when I moved them to their own tank and the fry didn't make it to the new tank. They'll be over it and back at making more fry. Now is a good time to get them into their own tank.

OK thanks to everyone who has gave me great advice and help.. I will be moving the male and female to there own tank tonite. Just 1 more thing does anyone know how likely and when they breed again? it's only a 60 liter tank I will be moving them 2 but I should hope that is big enough for them

Way to small for texas cichlids.

edit: You could seed a filter in your current tank and move the rock that they spawn on and the 'up bringer' to the 60L.

Sorry call me dumb but what do you mean by seed the filter in my current tank and also the up bringer? Will they not breed in the 60 liter u recon?

60L imo is way to small for even one. Whichever fish, m/f, that takes care of the eggs and fry should be moved with the eggs. When I say seed, I mean the filter that will go in your 60L. Just google: how to seed an aquarium filter.
