Help Sexing Jack Dempsey

    I have a pair of jacks. From what I can tell the males have less blueish color around the face and tend to get larger quicker. So I think yours here is a female. But...what happened to her fins??

    100% female.

    She was in a tank with a very aggressive convict that was given to me. She would get chased around alot. Ive since removed the convict. Not sure if that's what caused it. There were 2 splits in the tail fin. One healed but as you can see the other is still there.

    ah gotcha. Yeah I have convicts too. The males especially are relentless.

    She looks bloated and the breeding tube is down. Any male dempseys in the tank?

    Nothing else in the tank except a tiger nerite snail. What would cause bloating? She did just finish eating before I took the picture.
