Help Save my pygmy corys!

I have a well stocked 75g and recently added about 10 pygmy corys and have already lost a few, so i want to ensure i am not doing anything wrong. One or two may have been hurt during transport from LFS (caught in a fold of the bag) but the third one that died was fine for a few weeks. The others are all fine and active but i just want to make sure i am properly caring for them. I monitor my water parameters weekly (no issues). Still change water 2-3x/month and have never lost any other fish in more than a year since i re-started in the hobby. Tankmates include a few species of tetra, a few 3 spot female gouramis, and some peaceful small chiclids. None of them bother the corys. What i am wondering is whether my substrate flourite black (not sand) could be an issue (i had read in this forum that it was ok for them) or maybe they are not getting enough food (i mostly use flakes but vary it up a bit. Open to any ideas thanks!!!

My guess is the food is an issue.
In my experience a lot of flakes don't seem to provide all / the needed nutrition in a way.

Normal to lose a few of small fish when acclimatising.

May depend on condition at purchase as well as the conditions in your tank.

I lost 5 of the 20 Harlequin Rasboras I purchased this time last year.

The remaining 15 have been healthy since then.

Some LFS know how to acclimatise them.

Other LFS would lose them all if they weren't sold first.

. . . or maybe not enough flakes getting past the other fish, since they sink slowly?

agree though the flake food doesn't seem to be the right staplefood for Corys. Sorry for the generelisation (is this English ?). There are lot of brands / ingredients nut a lot contain more grains / vegs and not enough specific vitamins / minerals for Corys. Variation in food is a good idea .

You're probably right. And yes, since you asked, that's English, but it's spelled generalization (z instead of s).

90% of dry foods (flakes, tabs, wafers, granulates, pellets) are fillers and low quality ingredients with no nutritional value. Only few brands (and often even only single products of a line) meet the actual requirements for most fish.

(z instead of s)
Depends on the side of the pond. In the UK (most of Europe learns UK English in school) and Ireland it's with an s, but the z is acceptable unless in an exam.

Thanks. I knew some words were spelled different, depending in which side of the Atlantic you're on (like color and colour), but I didn't know about that one.
