Help On Breeding Betta's?

I actually used to know some of the ThaI breeders that sell their fish to the US wholesalers, through the IBC and related sites. Those are the same fish that end up in our petstores. Most of the males (not all, but most) are at least a year old. They pick the "big ones" from their ponds and breeding tanks because the "big ones" don't breed as well. Most folks agree that's because they're getting too old to breed.

I will say you're more likely to get a younger betta from the breeders that use ponds, because they can't see the fish until they've already pulled them.

Also, the ones that use ponds just put random fish in there, so the genetics behind the fish are often unknown.

Anyway, yes joining the IBC costs money, but you don't have to be a member to join their facebook pages You should do it! There are a lot of knowledgeable people there with some really amazing fish.

Yea no I honestly can't remember her name.

I believe a lot can tell you about their genetics but a lot of imports already in the US don't seem to have much info

I wanna join the IBC but it cost money to join right? My bank account isn't set up to make payments online sadly ): all I got is ATM cards for my account and I'm too lazy to change it until I get a new job
Never said to expect high quality from a pet store, I'm just saying a pet store fish doesn't make it bad to breed. I also don't believe most males are over a year old at the stores. It seems like a waste of money for a company to feed a fish that long for that small of a profit.
They are older than buying from a breeder and I'm sure some sit on shelves for a long time but they don't come to the store at already a year old

That's like my friend telling me the hamsters at the stores are already 8+ months old when they're just babies still.

Sorry I have disappeared, I agree with Breeder quality as I do with Pet store, I'm not someone keen into breeding show or high quality, I'm more into breeding them into great pets.

I know everyone has their own opinions, But I'm not doing this because I wanT money, I'm doing this because I love such beautiful moment's, it feels me with joy, we all live and learn in everything, Trust me if I make mistakes I know better then to do it again.

Luckily though, in a few months I'll have everything that I've been missing, But until then I'm going with my passion in rescuing Betta's in need.

Saddly, I have rescued 2 of them, I'll discuss it on another thread in a few, It's very heartbreaking and I'm definitely going to need advice on this! I know what to do, but not enough about it to feel satisfied.

Wish everyone a merry Christmas

The quality helps with a successful spawn. The higher the quality, the healthier/more fry live, and, of course, the price as well as demand is.

That's definitely true! But I think for the one's like me that just want to give it a go on a lower budget, Pet store isn't a bad start, but if breeding long term then I agree, quality is key.

Try and get ones that have nice form, good fins, lighter finage than rosetails so the male can successfully breed - hmpk are best for starting however they can actually catch the female faster than a long finned male so your tank and your pair need to be properly prepared for the ordeal they will go through - now it may not be as big an ordeal as one of the pair dying after because of stress and injury but know that is a possibility. I have a veil tail male that is so very aggressive he attacks the glass of his tank, I would not put anything living with him because he would hunt it down.
