Help Needed! Mystery Snails seem to be in shock

Hello Fish Friends!

I need your help! I have lots of possible issues going on and I am not sure what I should do..

2 days ago I transferred my mystery snail and his companion Betta fish into a new 55gal tank. These both came out of a tiny 1-gallon tank where they seemed to be happy but I could not stomach the thought of keeping them so cramped. They both did wonderfully for the 1st 24hrs.

I also have a 10-gallon tank that originally had 1 betta and 2 mystery snails. After going on vacation and leaving my tanks in the hands of a close friend, unfortunately, the water level in my 10 gallon got too low. My snails laid eggs and the clutch hatched. Upon returning from vacation, I had 100's of tiny mystery snails in my 10-gallon tank. I love these little guys so I wasn't too upset with the idea up upgrading to a large 55 gal tank for my snails and one betta.

Heres the issue...

Last night, I started transferring the baby snails into the 55gal tank. Most of them seemed to acclimate very well and immediately started to scavenge the bottom of the tank as well as climbing the glass just fine. I was totally thrilled that this had gone so smoothly. I was able to transfer about half of the babies into the 55gal and had planned to move the others in a few days to try and eliminate too much stress at once.

This morning, my original mystery snail is not looking good. He seems to have a transparent film that's coming out of him and he is hanging out at the bottom. He is alive and occasionally stretches his siphon out as if he is trying to pull air or just feel around but he is at the bottom of the tank and I have only ever seen him do this at the top. Most of the babies are tucked into their shells and I am not seeing much activity in the tank with them either.

I am not sure where I have gone wrong and it's terribly sad watching my original mystery snail-like this.. Feeling a little powerless to help him so any advice would be much appreciated. Photos are attached here for visual reference.

They seem to be resting. SOuld come out in day or two. Make sure none of the small ones try to eat the larger one or he'll die. Happened to me once. As for the film, Probably some poop.

what I would also do is try picking him up and dropping him with some tongs. This sometimes "starts" him back up.

I'd give him some time to adjust. Moving tanks can be a huge shock.

Thank you! I am really hoping that they are all just resting and getting settled in the new tank. Good to know about the little ones trying to eat the big one. I will be sure to keep a close eye on that.

Funny you say that about the poop.. I did notice that the big one seemed to start pooping as soon as I put him in the new tank and hasn't really stopped since... could this be him flushing out a buildup of waste from being in such a cramped tank before?

Thank you! I already feel better. Seems this is just normal behavior with acclimating to a new tank...

I think this process has been as stressful for me as it has been on my little guys!

Hello! After some feedback in my original thread, I think my snails may just be resting and getting used to the new tank.

My main concern is the transparent film you see on the large snail. I have been told this is likely just poop but I am worried that this could be a sign of a bigger problem.

yes, from my experience snails only poop about once every 2 or 3 days.

I have to ask. Have you checked the perimeters in this tank? Is an ammonia spike possible?
