I have two guppies who are together in about 1.5 gallon tank.ONe is female and the other is a male. The past couple of days, the female guppy is fighting the male. It is stressing him out so much that he was changing a different color. He wouldn't eat because she would eat all the food. He hides in a corner and tries not to go near her, but if he moves from that spot she attacks him. I seperated the for the time being and he seems to be doing better, but what do I do??? Do I put the other one back in??

Usually it's not really worth it at this point. However, with that being said , ive managed to fix a situation like this twice. I separated the problematic fish, just like you and when the other fish was fully back to health and had regained all it's strength, I introduced the fish back in. They would have forgotten each other and they will set a new hierarchy in which maybe the male will do better. If the other fish is still aggressive, it's not worth it.

Hang on, I just noticed you said they were in 1.5 gallons. You know that's not much space right? The aggressiveness might (probably is) be because of lack of space and overlapping territories. I suggest you upscale your tank as soon as possible. Also, the other container the female guppy is in, is it cycled? If it isn't, make sure you do 50% water changes each day or use an established filter on it.

Your tank is too small which is causing the aggression.

I am having a similar issue! I bought two guppies yesterday for my five gallon, and one of them nipped the other which is now scared and bleeding. I took out the aggressive one but I'm trying to find solutions. What worked for you?

Welcome to fishlore!

It sounds like tank size is the issue. IMO for a trio (I would not keep a Male Female pair) of guppies a 5 gallon would work, if you can rehome the fry. Otherwise I’d look into either rehoming them or upgrading to a 10 or 20 gallon to allow room for future generations of guppies.
