I have a 10 gallon tank, 3 dwarf rainbow, 4 neon tetras.

I noticed on wednesday morning white specks on the fish, treated them with ick wednesday night with API's liquid super ick cure. administered the second dose last night. when I got home tonight all the 4 neon tetra were dead. and this is especially odd - when I went to scoop them up with my net, one of them just fell apart into 3 pieces. one of them is missing too. i'm thinking it's definitely the super ick cure that killed them.

the three rainbows are still covered in white spots, it looks worse than before I treated them. they're very active still and are eating regularly. what's going on here? is this medication not good enough or something??

i'm going to do a water change right now ...

Did you remove the carbon from your filter? It will absorb the medicine. I just encountered my first case of ich last week and it wasn't until after the 3rd day I saw any improvement after the medicine. Have you tested the water? My neon tetras all died without any spots (that I could see) and it was the platies where I only saw the spots. When I tested the parameters were a bit off and I think that's what affected the tetras. Good luck and hang in there!!!

- this ich med is the safest one that I know of. How high did you bump the tank temp up to? 82 or 85? like sue2 asked, did you get all of the carbon out of the filter before adding meds?

I don't use carbon in my filter. but I did notice that the tank did not stay blue like it read on the bottle. too much filteration or something maybe? I bumped the temp. up to 82. checked my water and everything looks okay.

i'm going to look for another ick med today, unfortunately I live in Canada so good brands are hard to come by.

We've fun filters full blast with meds that turned the water blue. The water should have stayed blue, although it does 'fade' over time. A major pet chain store should have the ich-attack, although it runs about US$14 a bottle at pet stores here.
