Help my fat betta

For the last 4 days my betta Ozzy has been extremely bloated . I have fasted him for 3 days and I fed him half a boiled pea yesterday, but he still looks the same. He is swimming fine and behaving as normal, but his belly just looks so big. Is there anything else I can do for him? I normally feed him 4 ocean nutrition brand betta pellets twice a day, 5 days a week, then frozen blood worms once a week, then fast one day.

Sadly that looks like dropsy to me. It may just be bloat but I would wait for more answers before you act.

This probably is sadly dropsy so you should be careful but his scales aren't puffed and you said he doesn't have many symptoms. Slowly do more fasting but don't do too much too quickly otherwise he'll get stressed and be susceptible to more disease. You could try treating with very little aquarium salt in case it's a parasite because a little won't do any harm but just monitor him closely and have medicine on hand if it is dropsy or another disease.

I would think this is drospy. 8 pellets a day is too much for a betta. 5-6 is a good amount. If this was regular bloating the food probably would've passed through his system already.
Fast him another day to make sure it is dropsy and then if he is still bloated add some aquarium salt to the tank if he is the tank's sole inhabitant. 1 tsp per gallon.
If he has tank mates, do a salt bath in a your water changing bucket. 1-2 tsp per gallon. Make sure the salt has completely dissolved before putting him in the bucket.
You may want to increase the water temperature to 82 degrees F. It will increase his metabolism and help the food bloating him pass through his system.
You will also need to keep the water clean. 25% water changes every 3 days.

Side note on the salt, don’t use in the tank if you have live plants. Totally messed mine up from one use

Thank you for all for the responses. I don’t see any pineconing of his scales, his eyes look fine, his fins aren’t clamped, and his behavior is still active and social. Will a salt bath cause any issues if it isn’t dropsy? He’s in a 5 gallon with 4 ember tetras, a mystery snail and shrimp. Can someone walk me through what to do for my poor little guy? I’m really attached to this fish.

Wait 2 days with no feeding to see if his bloat goes down. If it doesn't, it is very likely that he has dropsy and you should start a treatment for it.
If it is dropsy, keep the water clean. 25% water changes every 3 days.
Do Epsom salt baths in your water changing bucket or a container. 2 teaspoons per gallon.
Increase the tank water temperature to 82 degrees F if possible.

Thank you! I’ll look I to getting a different heater. His is preset to 78. Do I use aquarium salt or epsom salt? Should I just fast him, or should I feed him another pea? He hasn’t eaten for 5 days now, I feel bad.

Since he has tank mates, you will have to do a salt bath, so use Epsom salt.
You could try with the pea, but there is no actual evidence that they work. Apparently daphnia works better.

It's dropsy. I would add some salt and a pea. If the pea doesn't work, then they just got a healthy snack.

With the epsom salt, if it doesn't work, try to get some medication ALONG with the epsom salt, and feed some healthy food. I recently lost a platy to this disease a few hours after you made this post, and I don't want any more fish to die of this terrible disease (srsly its horrible)

Thank you! I tried looking online to see if I could do salt and medication. I picked up some maracyn yesterday and did his first dose this morning after a water change. I also got aquarium salt, do I use that or epsom, or does it matter? I fed him frozen brine shrimp this morning but he didn’t seem interested. I’ll try something else tomorrow. I really want to do anything I can to save him.

68A49B59-E175-494B-98E7-8F85FB987303.jpegOk, now he has this white fungus looking this attached to his ventral fin. Is this some sort of infection or could it be just something stuck to him? He’s been resting on the bottom of his tank a lot more than usual today.

The disease is probably progressing. Keep with the treatment and give nice food, like TetraMin and make sure weekly water changes.
