Help! My black female molly is chasing my golden male molly!

My black female molly keeps chasing my golden male molly when they're idle and even when I give them food. Both of them are 2 inches in length and their age is unknown. The female molly is wider than the male molly. The female molly has made a small cave-type structure her home and the male molly just never even goes inside. When the female molly sees the male molly, she starts chasing him frantically and the male molly swims really fast in fear and never defends himself. He just swims fast. When the female molly sees food she goes there fast and never lets the male eat.

Mollies can be real jerks. When wr had mollies, the females chased the males almost endlessly. And often went after the tiger barbs as well. Even when they were pregnant.

I wanted to say that she is avoiding him because she doesnt want to breed, males will harass females to mate even when the females are pregnant and exhausted. but I also had mollies that were just plain jerks. and it was 2 females, I loved those beautiful jerks, but they took a short trip back to the store!

Welcome to the forum. I hate to tell you this, but if aggression is a concern mollies aren't the best option.

I don't think so cause my mollies look pretty young to breed, and the female molly always followed and chased the male one and the male never retaliated or followed/tried to breed with her.

mollies reach sexual maturity at 2 months old.

Mollies do that. As others have said, they reach maturity quickly and are relentless when they want to breed. In general, mollies are semi-aggressive, not really in a way that they will kill any other fish but more in a relentless chasing and occasional nipping. My mollies also took a trip back to the store after a few weeks but I do appreciate them in a species only large tank. They are not really good community fish imo

In ovoviviparous livebearers, it's the female which decides wether she will allow a male to mate with her or not, no matter how often a male chases her. If she doesn't want to mate, no mating will take place despite of the fact how often a male directs his gonopodium towards her.
If a male directs his gonopodium towards the vent of the female, while she doesn't want to mate, she can attack him, she can bend her lower body away from him or she tries to swim away from him. That's normal.
Female mollies can be sexual mature (but not fullgrown) at a young age already. A good estimate has already been given by Noroomforshoe (funny name, btw).

I got rid of mine early in my fishkeeping career because it frustrated me that they would follow the corys around, wait for one to find a morsel of food, then chase the cory away and eat the food.

Yes, agree. I like them but only in a species only tank
