This is my grandmas betta. Due to her being in the hospital her betta did not get the proper care he needed and deserved. i’m very upset about this. I treated him for dropsy about two weeks ago he had pine cone fins and a huge stomach when i found him and his tank water was completely brown and there was rotting food in there as well. he’s doing great other than his fins now. he definitely had bad water quality and brown algae. I want to know if this is some type of burn from his water or fin rot. he’s eating and active and in a one gal quarantine tank until he is okay to go back to my grandmas tank. I have cleaned out his entire tank and in the process of recycling it.

What a beautiful boy! Yes that is just some fin rot from the dirty water. A few weeks of clean fresh water and good food will fix him right up

What type of food do you suggest. I’ve never kept bettas. I have only a goldfish tank and a molly tank. My grandma has been using top fin betta crumbles for him and that’s what i’ve been giving him with a mix of brine shrimp and blood worms.

You can give them any comercial fish food, either pellets or flakes. Bloodworms are also very good for them, but go easy on the brine shrimp, maybe once or twice a week as a treat. The hard part is convincing them to eat- some bettas are notoriously picky haha
