My plants are pretty new. They're just starting to get new leaves. I kind of just stuck them in there. What do you think I should do? I was thinking maybe I would make a small hill of rock but then where do I put the driftwood?

At the moment there is just a kuhli loach and an angelfish but I am adding more kuhli loaches, probably an electric blue acara, and a few swordtails (I think). The kuhli loaches will love the rock "hill" but I just don't know how else to make it really nice.

I also have the "magic seeds" from ebay and am hoping to start some to make a carpet in part of the tank.

    That looks great!

I would like to use my existing plants/driftwood/rocks (garnet schist) if I can. I think I can make it work with a better layout.

You won't have to remove your plants. Just plan on finding a main piece to look at and remember remember the ever so important rule of thirds

    Thanks :)

I was thinking maybe the rock hill on one side with large plants around it. Then everything kind of slopping down towards the other side. Hopefully I can get the carpet plants working out and I'll kind of trail the plants down the hill, shorter and shorter. At least that's what I'm imagining. Hopefully I can achieve something even halfway as nice as I'm picturing. Haha!

I don't have much option for driftwood unless I order online and honestly I have no idea how much that will cost. I'll have a look. Maybe I can position the piece I have now differently and make it tree like.

Not trying to sound rude but in my opinion it doesn't really look like you have anything to see. It's just flat. So I think adding a rock hill would add to it a lot and of you go to bloomsandbranches.com you can get cheap manzanita branches for a few bucks plus shipping

Thanks. I'm not saying driftwood is expensive where I am. I'm saying I actually can't get any here. Unless I plan to drive 600 km. That's not feasible.

I had a quick look online and I found some driftwood for free shipping with prime on amazon. Nothing I really liked though. I'll keep looking. I'm in Canada so it's hard for me to find much with good shipping

I know the tank is just flat. That's why I am planning to change it. I am hoping I can get some help making my plans into a reality.

    Thanks :)

I'm trying to figure out a way to sprout the seeds (DSM), maybe on screen, and then transfer it to my tank. When I can get that sorted and started and after I get the rocks siliconed I'll start on the rescaping.

I hope I can get it to look how I am imagining

How can I be sure it's going to be good quality? I don't want to hurt my fish.

I think the little "rock hill" on the left side then gradually going down to the right side would look great. I would also try to work the drift wood into the hill design or set it up with some more plants and a few rocks as the main focal point.

Or just get some fake driftwood and really build up the drift wood on the left side or the middle with some more plants with your "carpet" on the right side.
They make some nice fake driftwood now. Plus once your plants really start coming in it's gonna look a lot nicer just with that alone.

    I hope this makes sense.

Thanks! I'm going to try to get my rocks siliconed soon. I really think one side built up and then flowing down to the other side will really look great.

I think I may use the driftwood in the hill pointing out to the right and attach some moss to it.

I can't wait for the plants to fill in.

I'm really excited about this now.

I'll have a look for some artificial driftwood.

I'm hoping to get it done before the end of summer. Hopefully. Haha!
