I swear my platy has looked pregnant for over a month. I have been ready for fry but I don’t know if she is even pregnant let alone if she looks like she is about to give birth.

Livebearers are always pregnant it seems. You will notice her regions getting darker the closer she is to being ready to give birth. Things that are helpful to do to stimulate birthing are water changes, adding a bit of natural salt, and slightly warmer temperatures will accelerate the development of the eggs.

She does look pregnant to me.

If you look at her from the top is she fat outward or just down?

She is a fairly light colour and with my sunburst platy I can see the babies in her stomach. That dark spot at the back looks like it is a view of the inside of her. Does it look black or lighter, kind of pinkish maybe. Can you see eggs or fry. You can usually see the embryo or the eyes quite well as they are a darker colour.

So the gravid spot looks pink but looks like it is getting darker. My husband thinks I’m crazy because every weekend I’m like “this is it she is going to have her babies”. Lol. Looking down at her, her stomach goes out bigger. like a eye drop. I have attached a picture of the male. He has absolutely no stomach so either the female is eating ALOT or I feel she is pregnant. I’m scared because the last platy I had that was pregnant went horizontal and there was a baby half in half out (I got really excited). But the baby never came out and she ended up dying

Salt might be what you're missing. What other species of fish do you have in the tank or live plants?

Yes I am almost certain she is pregnant.

Signs that she is going to drop fry are:
Hiding, chasing other fish away from her hiding spot, the dark spot in her stomach moving towards her analfin, the white spot behind the analfin (I'm completely blanking and can't remember what it's called) will open cause the middle to have a black dot.

They are also more likely to drop fry when the lights are off and when the water is warmer than normal.

Salt??? And I have platies, tetras, two annoying goldfish , 3 rope fish, 3 corries, 2 bumble catfish, algae eater, and 4 plants.

I also have a small 10 gallon tank in which I found only 1 itty bitty platy fry and didn’t even know she was pregnant when I was cleaning the tank? I didn’t even know it was possible to have just 1. I can’t find it any more though . I was not prepared for that one. I’m hoping it has a good hiding spot. I have 3 platy and 2 albino barbs in that tank.
