So I went to pet-smart last week and picked up four of these fish. In the tank there were Yellow labs, Kenyi, Blue Johanni, Bumblebees, and these guys. I saw their colors and couldn't resist getting them. At first I thought they were Auratus cichlids, but they look like Blue Johanni. Could they be some sort of hybrid fish? if so with what fish? Here are some pics. There was also a 4 inch one of them in the assorted tank above them so I included that picture also. Help would be appreciated. :D

The first image is from google images; claims to be a male Auratus!

The google image is Auratus, changing male.

Your fish appear to be hybrids, possibly of Pseudotropheus johanni and interruptus. The one in the store tank actually resembles a Melanochromis simulans with the long nose.

When you buy these fish from a chain store, you are almost guaranteed to get some hybrid fish. What the cross is, no one can tell you for certain.

Thank you so much! you don't know how much this helps me! I see them there regularly. Can I breed them with Blue Johanni? Or is it impossible?
